Talking question....

let me know if i am thinking this thru all the way...

most of the interior front and rear (lounge and bedroom) look like the pic below...paneling and ceiling pulled off...aluminum studs and yellow expanding foam insulation...so here is my question...

20" x 50'Aluminum Roll

this is a link to the material i am considering using as a wall material...but i intend to order this in the 36'' inch by 50' foot rool...price 79.00 plus change..i thought the price was good and the mill finish looks nice...

lowes also sells a 1/4 inch folded blue insulation that costs 33.00 per ....now this is 48 inches tall and about 50 foot long worth of insulation....

so my question is...considering the aluminum studs in the trailer and the gap in the foam insulation...in some areas this leaves a 1 to 1.5 inch gap to the face of the stud...i want to clean each section between the studs...cut to fit the insluation, squeeze in place and try to come flush to the stud face...next i want to place this aluminum roll in place and fasten it to the studs...then some edgeing or molding in the corners and i think it should look nice...

please correct me if i am off base in any way...

next question...this aluminum roll...how do i attach to the stud in the best way...rivets, liquid nail of some sort....what are your suggestions...i will have an overlap of about an inch in the aluminum if i go 36 inches from floor up...and come 36 inches down from top edge of frame..prior to roof curve...

i am asking for feedback...my only other thought in wall board was the white tileboard from GP that is sold at lowes...water resistant and easy to keep clean...

i am planing to use the white frp sheet from lowes for the ceiling material

Roll How Thick?

How thick is the aluminum roll?
Soft, thin stuff might show up dents and scratches easily.
Gee, there must be some aluminum experts online to help out with this one.

Roof Overlap and Seal

you'll see here where the roof is formed up over the roof edge then another flat sheet is put in place...sealed up as best as they could...seal looks good on this spot...most of my water came in from around the window edges...

i ordered some parbond from VTS...came in 2 days...very good service..

Window Sealing from inside...

i used the expanding foam in the blue can for the window cases to seal them up some from the inside...those cans dont go far...1 can per window...

also shows the window cases cleaned so you will know what to expect if you open one up...

I think that I would give the aluminum sheeting a shot but I would consider fastening with rivets. I have not worked with too much aluminum - are these wall panels structural in any way? You may need to go with something a bit thicker like belly pan aluminum which is 0.025 I believe. It would hold up to any dents or something pushing against it or when you fasten with a rivet.

Talking little progress made...

couple of items to catch up on .....this past month or so i had 3 new vents put in roof and a new a/c unit (13.5 btu with h/strip)....cut off the antenna and sealed up with a sheet patch...roof looks better and i will proflex around the vents and replace stove pipe vents this week...

next went in and placed luan to the walls and ceiling studs...this will give a backing for carpet...we are going to use a metal grey carpet on the walls up to the headliner...then a desert brown carpet on the ceiling....i have my fingers crossed that this will look good with the cabinets and floor...

put in a floating floor from lowes...180 sqft....oak laminate was onsale...used the 2/1 layering underneath and was really happy with the way this turned out...

dinnette cushions are down to Toms Upholstery in Haines City, Florida....price was 250 for 4 recovered...i thought it was high....but trusted him after seeing the work that was being done in the shop...have gone with a dark blue with a black mix....from sunbrella....this is a darker royal blue...i think it will look nice..

bought 2 new horizontal tanks with gauges and the new round style hookups and hoses...350.00 for everything from Rutherford Equipment in Orlando Florida...tanks are steel and not aluminum...

will post pics in a day or so..

Squarestream

Nice to see you are making headway on the project. This is a good chance for squarestreamer to see what is under the walls so I hope you will post some more photos. Not many of us have seen what lays below the covering.

Good Work!

Wow, you must lay a lot of carpet to be able to do that kind of work.

About the batteries, where do they vent to?
Sulfuric acid in a closed space with a inverter could cause problems. Maybe I did not see the vent in the photos.

Great photos!, I purchased 2 cameras over the past few years just to take pictures of the Airstream and still have not taken any, or started on the renovation even. Thanks for taking the time to show us your work.

does not appear that the wood was attached to the shell itself but to the frame only...i did not find any screws or bolts attaching to shell...

floor is currently out about 1/2 way up...about 4 foot...pink insulation found in belly pan...all cleaned up...will have more pic tomorrow...hope to have marine ply in tomorrow night..
Lee:
I have owned a 33-foot 1989 Argosy (2 doors with front kitchen) which I loved. I have had the same problem with the floor - mainly in the front and in the back, as I have seen in yours. Replaced the floor and the bottom half of the inside wall in the bedroom because it had rottened at the base. IMHO, you should check the joint between the walls and the roof. I had it removed and repaired (redone professionally) to eliminate the leak... this was the source of the water coming into the trailer.
Apart from that "little" problem, it was a very nice trailer. I also had to put a new spring in the awning...
