Who knows about this SOB??

Although my latest purchase is not an Airstream, it is parked next to one. It is a brand that I have never heard of and I wondered if maybe someone could help with the details of it.

1964 "Zipper" 14 ft. long, "canned ham". It has a sticker that says Clinton, South Carolina. I assume that is where it was made. I have done a good bit of searching and can't find anything. Also, a sticker that says sold by Brune TT Center Greenville, SC. Couldn't find any listing for the dealer either.

Any info about it appreciated.

I think I once got my shirt caught in one, but that’s another story. Neat find! How about interior shots?

Well, if you really want to see, here goes. Birch interior. The "Z" cutout is original, it is in the closet wall. A paint job, a little more brushing up here and there and it's on the road. A hunting cabin no more.

I'm thinking a mirror mounted inside the cabinet where the "Z" is would be very cool. A mirrored "Z".

I have seen Zipper trailers on the road from time to time although I can't remember any in the past 10 years or more. They were if I remember right pretty much of the early sixties style like yours. There were a bazzillion, okay, maybe a gazzillion trailer manufacturers across America, most in many small towns, who lasted from a few production runs for up to several years before fading away. The gas crisis in the early seventies killed a lot of them off as people were not buying trailers for a while. My company made and sold water and waste tanks, fender skirts, moldings and many other components to a lot of these little firms and they were in and out and in business again many times - usually with a new local owner and a bit of new financing and quite often a new name on the trailer but same old build and same crew on the plant floor thankful for another batch of pay checks and hoping they would finally get a product that would keep selling for years.

Try checking this SOB Forums group out and you may find folks with specific knowledge of your trailer:

"Welcome to the Vintage Vacations antique trailer talk group. This group was set up as a way for owners and admirers of all types of vintage travel trailers to meet and share information on all of the various types of trailers built from the 1930's to the 70's. For more information on vintage trailers, rallies and more, visit the Vintage Vacations website @ http://www.vintage-vacations.com

Here's folks with a '65 Zipper

Photos, Album group 2

They are on the Vintage Vacations site I mentioned previously. You may be able to contact them for more detail.

Good luck, your trailer looks to be in great shape.

The Zipper

Barry,

Thanks for the site link and info I will check that out.

Overlander63: Great idea about the mirrored "Z" . I have also thought about boxing it in and adding a light on the back side of the cutout so it would shine through.

Will post after photos when it's ready. Thanks for all the nice comments.

Hello tinbender, cool little trailer . reminds me of my youth when we had a
scottie trailer (big following today) a shasta with the fins ,and a couple others I cannot recall the names .I had bought and restored a 73 fieldandstream about the size and shape of yours there .I pulled that one
from CA here to Minnesota with my 70 IH Scout and many other places
before my airstream obsession began ,but I love any vintage trailer of all kinds .Enjoy it !!
