Very cool!

That's awesome! I remember reading a post from somebody 6 months ago that was a huge fan of these... I hope they find your pic! I wish I remembered who they were... man, could you imagine that polished and on a black or even red truck? Talk about a head turner

Thanks for sharing!

I've also seen one of these old Avion truck campers on I-168 between Newport News and Williamsburg Virginia. It's been sitting there for months in a yard. I'll go get a picture and knock on the door if anyone is seriously interested.

I like the fact that the only thing holding the insert to the truck is one nylon cargo strap thrown over the roof. Cool if you can mount it better!

I know where there's one of those that has been sitting in the same spot for at least 30 years. I'm going to make the guy an offer on it after I save up a wad of cash to hand him if he agrees. I think it would look great all polished up with my dually fenders sticking out from under the sides. Great for those weekend getaways when I want to take the ATVs out of town for a couple of days and can't take the AS along.

Remember, you will need a 1 ton truck with a full bed for just about any p/u camper.

The 3/4 ton truck it's sitting on looks like it's doing a good job.

The biggest difference between Airstreams and Avions is that Avions (at least those built after the early 1960s) were made with ANODIZED aluminum.

They will NOT polish up like an Airstream.

I had one of these Avion truck campers for a number of years. It is all aluminum, with a plywood floor and wooden cabinets. With the addition of 1 overload spring on each side, I was able to haul it safely on my lighter duty Ford F-150.

Those are neat campers, especially when they're refinished. I know of a Silver Streak camper up near my in-laws that has been sitting behind a church for years now. If I could get my hands on it, that would be cool. Of course the Silver Streaks (and Streamlines) were anodized aluminum, and good luck finding one that doesn't have a faded or jacked up finish. Your only option is to pretty much sand and polish at that point.

Silver Streaks prior to 1964 were not anodized and will polish nicely.
