Someone needs to buy this... I wish it was ME!!

1973 Cayo Motorvator by Avion

Text from ad:

1973 Cayo Motorvator by Avion - $14750 (Waynesville, NC)

1973 Cayo Motorvator with only 53,000 original miles. Class C on Dodge 3500 chassis. 360ci engine. All original except for recent floor covering. Onan generator with 92 hrs. I've spent over $3,000 up-dating mechanical needs. Gets about 12 mpg. Tires are excellent. Have recent documented check-out by RV technician. These are rare. Slide-in truck campers can occassionaly be found but not these. Check-out website Tin Can Tourists. For further information serious buyers can phone Dave at 828-456-99nine3. Thanks.

Why does it have Greyhound stickers?
It is cool, though.
I would love to own it, but I am over-run with toys and no place to put them all- and broke-

I've seen that one advertised for some time this year, or possibly another equally pristine one (because I don't recall the Greyhound sticker).

It wasn't moving fast, perhaps due to the concern over driving essentially a 42 year old truck reliably, but this & the other (if different) were great.

If this one doesn't have a write up on the Cayo history & how they kept the slide-in truck camper & RV sides of the business when they sold the trailers to Fleetwood (who eventually killed Avion), then this may be a 2nd nice Avion RV in the same year.

Someone needs to buy it!

Happy Turkey Day in 3, 2, 1!
Tom

Wow! I really like that...and it is just a few hours from my house. It was even "born" the same year I was. My parents are looking for a different RV. I'm going to have to try to talk them into it...

Tom T, that is the same one that was listed earlier this year. I think that just the right handyman ( someone like me that wouldn't flinch at that one IF the funds were there ) or someone who can pay someone else to maintain it will end up purchasing it eventually. Anyone want to go-fund-me???? Plenty of room in my back yard!

twolanehwy: yes, that IS Mark Farner! He's one of my absolute favorites!

Echelon73: that would be MOST excellent if you could get your folks to buy that! To me, that Cayo MH would be one of the coolest RV's on the road. The only other one that has ever peeked my interest was a 1978 Travco 270 the was for sale a couple of years ago. Someone had beautifully updated the interior, and the outer shell had been painted a grayish-silver. It was absolutely gorgeous!

I saw Grand Funk live in Houston in 1974. I couldn't hear for hours after the concert. Mark, Don, and Mel put on a heck of a show.

Oh yeah...nice '73 Avion.

Saw them in Dayton in 74'..can't remember with who but for a 3 piece they rocked all right.
Are we getting old or what? At leasr we're getting old.

Anyway back on topic.
That would be nice out here as it is pre smog year. 1974 was the last year of no smog vehicles. It's a real pain and cost to deal with.

Paul & for those interested -

These American made classic cars & trucks are actually easier to maintain & even replace out or upgrade entire drive trains & suspensions/brakes, than are the newer ones with all the soon to be NLA electronics & computers. (we're space & funds maxed out now - already too many projects)

I used to work for a guy in college in the early 70's with a different box on the same Dodge chassis who traveled for his biz with it all over the US all year long & had 350,000 on the original engine & all, so they were built solid, & AFAIK there are crate engines & trannnies + parts/etc. readily available for Dodges.

The new car computers & electronics components can cost as much to replace alone - as the engine for this Dodge!

So I wouldn't shy away from this as an older RV - I was just postulating why it may be moving slowly.

And Paul - I really think I would remember the Greyhpound sticker - so it's either been added recently, or there were two of these. I think the ad I saw was probably coming up on my evil-bay Avion searches where I keep an eye oout for vintage parts for our `60 Avion T20.

Have a Happy Turkey Day All!
Tom

I know two of these in exceptional condition that have been for sale in the past year or so. The first was one that Chuck Cayo had for sale, then there was this one with the greyhound sticker.... I spoke to the owner of the "greyhound" this morning. He verified that it was the same one I had seen earlier. A potential buyer is going to look at it Saturday.
