Sis bought the Airlight!!!

My sister bought the Airlight listed on ebay!! I'm so hoping it's not some sort of awful scam, since they're so rampant!

I also found it on the Tincan Tourists classifieds from 2006. Same pictures that were used on ebay.

Oh, I hope it's legit!

Whatcha think?

Question

Becky,

Well we all sure hope it is legit.

I can only relate my ebay experiences.

Both of our major purchases, 06 8.1 Burb TV,(2007), and our 04 Allison GSE boat,(2009), did not sell on their original offerings. In both cases I contacted the sellers by phone, bartered a deal, and sent a non-refundable deposit. You can "read" a lot from a lengthy phone conversation, (even more face to face on the net.)
DO NOT complete the transaction before seeing the trailer in person, do not send a deposit before a direct phone conversation, and be prepared to lose your deposit if expectations are not met. Most big ticket sellers will accept a $500 deposit.

My biggest red flag on your Sisters deal.

If the current seller is the previous buyer, why are they willing to take such a big loss on the price?
And then there's the photo's. If you had bought that unit wouldn't the FIRST thing you do is take a bunch of pic's? Why use several that someone else took 5 years ago?

"Cloudsplitter" hoping all goes well...

Bob

The other odd thing is that the photos were already gone when I clicked on the auction link yesterday, the day the auction closed. In my experience, photos usually remain on eBay for at least a few days after the auction closes.

I told her to get his phone # and talk with him to put herself at ease. The worst part about it is that it's in Connecticut & she's in Grand Rapids, MI. She has never towed anything & is planning on having it shipped so she won't see it before receiving it. I know, it's a big risk. It's just what she has been looking for, though & sure looks cute in the pix. Anyone live near Sherman, CT that would like to check it out for her?

I have been in your sisters situation before and I hope her eBay experience is as good as mine. I live just south of Chicago and found THE trailer I wanted on eBay in southern Illinois. I'm a single woman that camps at a private club 5 min. from my home. I have never towed anything in my life and don't plan to. I couldn't get down there to look at the trailer and my father who normally checks things out for me was ill at the time. I talked to the man on the phone many times and we were both nervous about the deal.. He was very upfront about the issues it had and I offered his asking price if he could tow it to me.. He had a friend that tows things for a living so we worked it all out.. He was nervous to pay his friend to tow it to me and then have me back out of the deal and I was nervous that a complete junker would show up.. My '77 showed up looking better than I thought from the pictures, the title and keys came with it.. I gave the man that towed it the cashiers check for the seller.. These days it's so hard to trust people but I'm glad I did.. I got a little work done on it for safety reasons. My kids and I had a great summer camping in it and this winter I will be doing a lot of upgrading.. I hope your sister is as lucky as I was.

Thumbs up

"Anyone live near Sherman, CT that would like to check it out for her?"
Becky.
That's a very good sign if the seller is willing to have it inspected by a third party. Hope someone volunteers.

Bob

My sister finally got to talk to the guy with the Airlight. He's legit! He sent her some pictures that he just took on his phone, so he has the trailer in his possession. She's going to have it shipped (hopefully on a trailer) & I'll make sure she takes some pictures & posts them here. She's really excited to take her little grandson on a few camping excursions in her teeny tiny trailer!

No shower or toilet are a minus in my book, but she's never had one, so she won't know what she's missing!
