Silver Streak restoration

Hi Everyone, First off thanks to everyone especially AEROWOOD for advice and suppliers. I finally had time to lift the shell from the frame today. It went smoothly without hick ups. I first braced the wall ribs to hold the width then ran a 2X4 across all of them to hold the position and then put a 3" screw to hold the position a 4" 1/2 lag bolt along with an A35 clip. I then ran 4X4 under that then a 2X4 under that.to jack from. I had all the cinder blocks ready at each point with the opposite side I was jacking firmly supported with blocks and 2X material to avoid the shell slipping off the frame or whats left of it then jacked each side up till it cleared the wheel( NOT ALL AT ONCE I WENT BACK AND FORTH A FEW TIMES TO GET IT UP).I have all the C channel, Ribs and pieces fabricated waiting to rebuild. I know this will cause some controversy here but I am going with aluminum outriggers and adding a little metal up front to support the floor. I will also brace the beam that holds the leaf springs.

I am not 100% on the interior layout. I have all original interior pieces except for ice box or fridge which ever would have come with.

Love the Silverstreak. What year and length?
Why are you going aluminum on the outriggers? Isn't the frame steel? If you weld aluminum to steel isn't that a setup for the dreaded galvanic corrosion?
More Pics Please

Just saw this one two days ago in Missoula, MT. It's a 1952 Silver Streak 25' Clipper for sale at $500.

Title says 60 so who knows what year for sure before 52 I believe they went to a diamond shape above the wheel well. I am putting it back as it was. You can not weld steel and aluminum. They get riveted to steel tabs. They lasted 60 years. The factory just slapped these things together with out a care in the world about them rotting. I am going to approach it a bit different and of course with love

gdod. Here is the website: About — Vintage Airstream Restoration
It is in East Missoula. Nice people there and they do restorations. There were 5 or 6 AS there in addition to the Silver Streak. The shell looked in great shape, but apparently the windows are very hard to find. Inside is gutted. I have more pics if you send me an email.

Got my metal supports cut today. I am putting six pieces in to tie the tube to the floor. I am also going to brace the axle. I have the frame down to the tube and ready for sand blasting. I will check back soon. John Los Angeles, CA

Hi Everyone, I had a 10 day gig but now I am back on it. I used acid on the rust and then painted the tube. It took almost all day to fight the shackle bolts out. I smashed my hand real good. I am going to run the springs down to a spring shop and have new bushings pressed in. I hope to repair the tube this week or next. I am going to santa Barbara to lift the shell of another Silver Streak Clipper and repair the frame and subfloor. Stay tuned.

Enough ribs for two Silver Streak Clippers. I have been making enough for the Clipper in Santa Barbara too.

!947 Clipper

I have stumbled across a 1947 Clipper in good shape. It has had the interior removed, new flooring, sink and counter and AC. It has been used as a sales trailer. Owner says he had the frame redone. not sure what that means. Any idea of a range of values fro these things?

Yes. Way too much. IMHO. Windows not original. Detracts from value a lot. Of interior isn't original I think 4-6 is more reasonable. Is it in CA? That ca add to value.

I do appreciate the candid opinion. Yes, this is a California location. Any idea how much more that brings to value? (Expensive like everything else in California!)
