Thumbs up Pretty cool looking trailer!

First off...welcome to the forums! Although this site is dedicated to Airstream products, there's a wealth of cross-over information that you may find helpful.

Here's a great link to a website dedicated to Silver Streak Trailers you may also find helpful. Be sure to check out the Trailer Pictures section. The one you have pictured here looks an awful lot like the detailing on the '55 Jet.

I believe they have an e-mail list linked at that site that you could join as well.

Good luck in your quest!

Shari

Great find! Can you take a closeup of that plug? If its anything like the other 50's plugs I've seen, there isn't any plugs that will fit it and you will have to replace it.

Shouldn't be a problem! It should polish up just the same...love to see pics of the inside too! You could post them in the photo gallery section at airstreamphotos.com using your same login as here.

Here's a couple of links...
'55 Silver Streak Clipper - This one listed at $12,000 & sold for $9500

Vintage Trailer Directory - Lots of different models, several Silver Streaks with links & email addresses of owners

'56 Silver Streak Rocket - Currently for Sale $2799
I'd say you did pretty well if you only paid $500!

Have Fun!

What a great find. My father-in-law has a mid 60's Silver Streak that he has reconditioned (not restored) and has been hauling it back and forth from Houston, TX to the mountains in Colorado twice a year for the last 10 years. He also takes it with them to the beach for fishing outings many times a year.

He stripped it and clear coated 4 years ago and it looks great.

Have fun and keep us informed on your discoveries.

Measure from bumper to hitch to determine length.
Go to http://tompatterson.com/Silverstreak/Silverstreak.html for info on Silver streaks. I dont know the year but i can tell you for sure it is no older than 1954 as clippers prior to that were pipe frame rocketeer style trailers.
Good luck.

Send a message via Skype™ to uwe
I'd suggest a google search for silver streak and clipper, see what comes up.
There has got to be a group for these things someplace.
Good Luck!

Dear "Dude":

Generally trailers are measured ball (hitch) to bumper. Typically this adds about 2' to the actual length of the body.

We hope the $500 trailer is in good shape! It may end up being a great deal. Be sure to check out Tom Patterson's Silver Streak site at http://www.tompatterson.com/Silverst...verstreak.html

(silver streak) to me?---hello--I was out working on my 56 Bubble this afternoon and my oldest son's friend's dad came over to pick up his boy. He said--i have one of those old alluminum trailers sitting out at one of my farms--"it's gutted out and needs a ton of work but the outside's in pretty good shape--if you want you can have it --i'll just give it to you for free" he said. Man--what are hard thing to pass up. however, I'm realizing what it takes (dollar wise) to rebuild a trailer. When i was on a pizza run i had to go out to his farm to check it out. it's a cool looking silver streak rocket 28 footer but needs lots and lots, and lots of money to make roadworthy. I need someone to talk me out of throwing some spare tires on it and crawling home with it. The skin seems doable minus one dent by the door, a couple holes from old vents but several of the old windows were toast and boarded up to keep water out. it needs more work than my bubble did that's for sure as the bubble's exterior is solid. do any of you know much about the rocket model or silverstreaks in general? I know they're not as collectable as airstreams but still interesting. cheers--ted
