We have purchased a 1971 Avion. I know this is airstream forums but I cant find much online about avions. When we plug the avion up to 110 outlet it will run the air and electrical outlets. My question is can you do away with the convertor and fix it where everything (lights pumps etc...) will run off of just a 110 connection? Arent the newer travel trailers like that? I know they have generators but not having one is fine with me. Everything is going to be electric except for the stove. Any help will be greatly appreciated! THanks!
Welcome to the forums from a fellow Mississippian. We consider an Avion a 'cousin' and love to have ya' here.
If I understand your question corectly...The electrical system might seem a bit odd to a person looking at it for the first time, but the modern RV setup has evolved into a pretty good arrangement. The converter will take the 110 and product 12v for all of the lighting... so you sorta are already 110V. I'm not aware of a new trailer that has greatly deviated from this theme. By sticking with a 12v based system quite a few of us have avoided the generators for everything except AC (which we really do need here in MS )

Not to mention that the electronic controls for your refrigerator, water heater and furnace all require 12 volts to function. So you would have to replace them. If you remove the converter and battery you will effect the resale value of your Avion.
Unless you are intending to Park it in one location for the rest of it's life the awnser is no.
There are 2 electrical systems in all trailer. Park models may be what you are questioning do run on 110 because they will never travel. You rig has 2 systems, the 110 to run the AC, a few 110 outlets, and the converter. While all the other electrical things, lights, refigerater, heater, fans, and tank monitors in the trailer are 12 volts running off the batteries which are charged while you are attached to 110.
Even if you don't realize it, there are many systems that run on, or require 12 volt as a reference. All fans in the roof and kitchen are 12 volt, the amplifier for the tv antenna is 12 volt, the tank monitors are 12 volt, the water pump is 12 volt, the blower for the furnace is 12 volt. Most of the lights are also 12 volt. Unless you are going to completely strip the wiring in the trailer, and refit it with all 120 volt items (a huge pain, not to mention expensive), the answer is NO. I have never seen a 120 volt RV type water pump for the fresh water system, either.

I appreciate all the respones to my question! We arent going back orginal with the avion. We took the old fridge out and putting in an electric one. There is a outlet behind were the old one came out. As far as travel, we only really go to the beach and that is about the only place we will take it back and forth. The air runs when we just plug in to the 110 outlet. So it was just all a little confusing to me to need the convertor. Which i will probably be keeping espcially since i have found nice people like yall to answer my questions. I would love to see photos of any that have redone their rvs like we are doing. We have painted inside walls and cabinets. I will show pics when we are done. The avion cabinets werent in the best condition and it probably could have been just used for parts. Any more comments are greatly appreciated.
