Pipe Frame Relacement Build

I appears my 1952 SS Clipper is going to receive a brand new Pipe Frame. Just got off the phone with Dimetri at Airstream Supply and I will be getting 8 of his HD replacement cross members. I just confirmed a local supplier for a 21' long piece of 4" schedule 40 pipe. 0.226 wall. Appears a Bulldog straight round coupler will fit inside as it has a 3.5" OD.
I still need to fab some of the spring mounts.
Why do this instead of the ladder frame I talked myself into?
First, level of difficulty of construction. This goes easily to the tube frame.
Cost. No chance on this one being the pipe frame.
Springs and not torsion. I can get lighter weight springs.
Weight. Main tube 160 lbs. I am trying desperately to keep the towing weight way under 2k. It is advertised as 1750 lbs. in 1952.
Durability. Ladder frame.
Tanks. Ladder frame.

I have seen David Finicks mod in his book.
Next post will show some brackets I am thinking of using....
Stay tuned.

Well, here is another post on where I'm going on my Pipe Frame.
The photos are drawings of yet another reinforced Pipe Frame.
The first is the parts, minus the aluminum cross members.
First item to construct will be the Spring Mounts and Mounting Plates. Next picture shows a typical Cross Member. 1 of 8.
On to the next page. So now the compiled Spring Mount Assembly will them be welded to the Pipe.
A bit different than.
Next page is Plan A.
Addition of perimeter rail. A 1" x 2" square steel tube runs the 12' straight middle section of the body. All Cross Members are notched for clearance. 2 new Mounting Plates are installed on the 1st and last Cross Member.

Please critique this design as I need a foundation to design the front and rear End Cap sections for shell attachmentClick image for larger version
