Not an AS but still interesting
Found this on FB from Car Talk today. Interesting story behind these vehicles. GM Futurliner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Futurliners are indeed a cool bit of automotive weirdness. Big, slow, unairconditioned ungainly 8-wheeled monstrosities, there's really nothing all that great about them from a vehicular point of view and yet I WANT one.

I had the means, I'd definitely have one of those.
Is that a cool vehicle, or what??

I think there were 12 built and 3 are known to still exist.

"12 Futurliners were manufactured, with nine still known to exist as of 2007. In 2014, Futurliner #10 was nominated for inclusion in the National Historic Vehicle Register"
The story at Wikepedia is really interesting and has the known status of them.

A Futureliner sold at Barrett-Jackson auction for 4.1 million dollars back in 2006.
Still want one?

Absolutely! I've loved them since I was a kid.
The Futurliner that sold for $4.1 million in 2006 to Ron Pratt?
It will be sold again in 2015 at Barrett-Jackson auction, January 10-18.

Yes, it is a part of the Pratt collection. Many items in his collection will be offered at auction soon. The day he bought the Futureliner, he bought a Pontiac Bonneville concept car for 2.6 million.

When I was a kid growing up in Eugene, I saw the Parade of Progress traveling exhibit. I was fascinated by the mechanical animated miniature freeways, with HO-sized cars and trucks moving along intricate roadways, freeway interchanges, etc. I even remember the cars in the inside lanes moving faster than the trucks in the slow lane! I really wanted to get a look at the mechanisms behind the scenes, but never got the chance.
I saw the DecoLiner at the Portland Art Museum a couple of summers ago. Completely Amazing.
