Identification needed

Can anyone out there identify this old beauty I saw sitting in a pile of junk yesterday? I hope to be able to get closer to it soon for a better observation.

Looks more like a Vagabond but I don't think it is one. In the late 40s very early 50s there were several trailers with similar shapes including Westwood and Vagabond as well as Spartan.

Try this web site. I think I have seen a picture or ad of your trailer and it was most likely here.

I spoke to the owner this morning who said it was a 50's era "Alama". Has anyone ever heard of that brand? Sadly, it has rotted beyond repair.

The Alma company was a leading maker of trailers in Michigan. They sold a lot of trailers in the fifties. There are some Alma trailer ads in the Atlas web site but none match the one in your pics.

The closest I could find were on another site. They are Westcraft and Royal trailers. Neither is a perfect match.

Alma could have made your trailer. Some web searching may turn up a matching picture or ad if you look around.

Here's a link the the TCT website that gives some Alma history.

alma [DokuWiki]

The one in your photograph looks similar to the red/white two tone rig shown near the bottom of the page.

Interesting Docuwiki. The brochure pictures show a 1940 or 41 Chrysler tow vehicle and the trailer has a license plate number "1947". The style of the brochure is also consistent with that date. The model could be from the late 40s or very early 50s.

Is the outside shell made of aluminum or steel? A lot of expensive forming went into the shape of the front and rear.
