I have had it!!!

If you see an Airstream for sale in the Classifieds or Craigs.....you are an Idiot if you even consider paying for it before seeing it.

In the past two weeks I have purchased a round trip ticket from Monterey, Calif. to St. Louis, had two hotel rooms for two nights, hired a sitter, spent numerous hours of prep time....only to have the seller decide the last day to give a local buyer a "chance." I know....no consideration was exchanged....my Bad.

Not to worry, I drove to Louisiana to look at a pristine 64 Bambi....did not pay in advance like I was asked to. A PIECE OF CRAP....the floor was so bad he even had a 4 x 8 3/4 plywood laying on top of the rotted floor and covered with 1969 yellow shag. He could have removed the dead mice and rat poison boxes before I got there. You know the smell of really dead rodent?

Never mind! I then went to Corpus Christi to pick up the 1994 21' Sovereign I had been searching for....It appeared to have been used as a dog kennel for the past two years and the interior walls and ceiling were completely delaminated.

Never mind! I had a 1954 Cloud in original perfect condition located n Arkansas. Off I went this AM. I still smell the mouse piss and mold. It only needed a new door, new brakes and tires, a new floor (probably a frame)all new windows, access doors, window weather shields, a belly pan, wiring, water system and none of the appliances worked, and the entire interior tossed ...but still ready to camp in.

Back to the drawing board. Buyer beware!

I hear you. Check the inspector's list. You might get lucky and find someone in the area who will give you a better set of pictures and a "smell-o-rama" description.

Melody R,

It's so sad that an honest person cannot find others to deal with. So sorry with your experiences.

don't give up, I found an almost perfect early 70's 30' for 5,500 on craigslist this spring, it was owned by the same guy since new.

That is rotten luck you must be so disappointed. Do have someone in the area from the forum take a peek first. You'll find it and you will be glad the others weren't the ones...

so...

is this what they call "aluminitus" MR???? As you know Mike and I are really new to this travel trailer stuff. We have one vintage kin that needs ALOT of work, I can't imagine trailer # 2 (yet???) We've been reading your threads and comments on your labors and successes regarding your TTs and you're off looking for MORE? Your finished TTs look fabulous and I would assume you've finished them to enjoy them. Boy, we must have alot to learn.

It definitely sounds like an addiction. Is there an AS Anonymous Club?

Hang in there - the next "one" will come along when it's supposed to.

Tina

PS - We're adding our names to the "AS check-out" list. We may not be trailer "professionals" by any stretch of the imagination, but we know what smells, what floor rot looks like and what to judge on appliances, so call on us for anything in the St. Louis area again.

Melody, it might just be that I have been in the Army too damn long and have become jaded, but you have too much faith in humanity. Because Airstreams are so "rare" and "collectable" and "valuable" (noone mentioned these catch words?), people get greedy and greedy people are generally going to do whatever it takes to pawn their crap on you, while ensuring they take as much out of your checking account as possible.

Wouldn't it be great, if you were allowed to shoot them on site for wasting your time and money?

I'm in San Angelo and I'll be more than happy to drive out to take a look at rig for you, as long as it's in my area, give or take. Or, if you'd like to come to San Angelo, I've got a really rare, collectable, valuable, pristine, mint, ready-to-camp, everything works 1971 Sovereign I'll sell you....Just kidding!!!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.
