How to mount things to walls

Question ; I am renovating an old 1967 Ambassador. It is gutted to the walls. Can you tell me how do I mount things to the walls? What do you recommend using?

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard....

This worked very well on the bare aluminum in our 63 Safari.

Thumbs up

I never drilled any new holes, but spent quite a bit of time repairing those that other folks did.....the velcro worked well for wall clock, pictures, towel racks etc. The velcro was easy to remove when it came time to re-decorate.

I use "Command Strips". They velcro that will withstand the vibrations of travel. I, also, use the hooks to temporarily attach to see if I like it before mounting a permanent one.

The Command Strips are amazing - the new ones for picture hanging have held our clocks, pictures, etc without falling. The hooks are great for closets, bathrooms, galley.

I've used just plain old foam double backed tape on clocks and pictures. Make sure the item is clean and the wall is clean.

Command Strips from 3M are wonderful, have used them for over five years and never fail - they are a bit pricey however.

How to mount things to walls

I like Auto body grade double faced tape. It's used to mount moldings and name plates etc. to auto paint, so it holds realy well, until you want it to come off.

Just want to be clear, are you talking walls and shelves and such or just little things like a clock, pictures? Also, just about anything you want to find is on this site. Click the search towards the top of the page and then put the cursor in the second box right under Google Search.

Thanks
Tony

I resently changed a wardrobe to a hanging cabinet (ie. I removed the bttm half of a full floor to ceiling cab.) and followed what AIRSTREAM had done for the top of the cabinet. Use a length of 1" x 1" aluminum angle equal to the width of the cabinet you are installing, fix the angle on the side least seen from out side with screws long enough to reach through the alum. but not all the way through the plywood. Fix the alum to the iner skin with sheet metal screws, preferably with stainless steel screws. I used 1/2" #8 screws. As you drill into the skin side, try to find a rib (stud in housing terms) to screw into. If you don't find one, don't be too worried about it, just be very sure to not over tighten the screws. If you strip the hole then you can worry, or add a larger diameter screw. This is apparently holding the upper cabinets in place in my 2014 FC as from the factory, so it should work for you.

Happy renovating.:

We just got through gutting our '59 Tradewind and it was a mix of screws and rivets. The walls had a couple pieces of Bulkhead Moulding that was attached to the walls with rivets. All the walls and other wood components like the dresser, kitchen, closets...etc were all attached to each other with screws. I'll see if I can get some pictures up later tonight

I rivet anything permanent where possible, use SS screws where removal might be necessary or if attaching something especially thick like wood. Hit ribs where possible/necessary.

I want to mount a porthole mirror to the head door of our 2015 FC 23D. I plan on using the medium picture Command Strips. The mirror weighs about 3 lbs max. Any problems with Command Strips on the "imitation" wood covering of the door?

I Don't trust comand strips. Had removable hooks up holding a string of LED lights. Lets just say I didn't have to remove many. The ones that did stick, really stuck, not a high percentage though.
