For serious Vintage hunters
Seen in a back yard in the small town of LAWTELL, St.Landry Parish, Louisiana on Saturday, Jan 15:
It seems the trailer was last on the road over 25 years ago. I didn't have time hunt down the owner so I don't know what this is. No identification visible.
Note that if the front curved window was an Argosy-first in the Airstream world, that was not the case in the wider world of aluminum beauties.
Also seen the day before, January 14: an abandoned 1950's AIRSTREAM and a 60's sedan, like an Oldsmobile - Maroon- parked in a farm yard/field just west of the town of LAKE ARTHUR on Louisiana highway #14.

It's a 1947-51 Spartan Manor 25' trailer built in Tulsa, OK. It is complete with fender skirts over the rear axle. This one is a single axle model. A nice find. The aluminum can be polished to a mirror shine too.

Yup, old Spartan! I love the shape of those - they look like they're moving just sitting still. It would be nice to see restored-refurbished, but that would be a BIG project!

we were watching a CSI re-run last night. The criminal lived in a run down 70's Airsrtream which they showed a few times on the inside, but when they showed the outside shots it became a Spartan like the one above. In fact in one shot from a distance it had morphed back into an Airstream.

Its funny, Im new to AS with our 93 we are remodeling, but the more I see these Spartans the more they really are growing on me and pulling me in towards them. Id like to have a total restore project but dont know if the wife would go for that...LOL ...But how hard would it be to find parts for something like that and what would be a reasonable offer for a trailer in such condition. There was one on Ebay for like 6900 (OUCH) and it needed to be restored but had a straight body. That one seems to have some body damage. Just giving this some thought since its not to far away from me.....

I wouldn't let parts worry you. You can modernize anything you can't find, and Airstream parts will be similar and much easier to get. I'd mostly worry about the same stuff I would on any vintage - frame problems, aluminum work, and that the Spartan's interior (walls and ceiling) was entirely faced with wood veneer - beautiful, but a real task to fix up!
Search around for some pictures of restored ones and you'll feel that pull even worse! I have been very close to bringing one home myself.

The one on EBAY is overpriced in MHOP. I have seen others in that shape for less.
There is a gutted one near here with nice skin and exterior that was more like 1500.
Spartan Manor
The Spartans are a worthwhile project, and if you end up restoring one you will be the envy of many us.
I looked at one that needed everything redone, and had trees growing into it. More than I could handle at that time, for sure.

There is a 1950 Royal Mansion for sale on Denver's Craigslist for $65,000. She's a beauty.

I agree the one on eBay was way over priced. Wish I could find one like you described for 1500 it would be heading to Texas for refurb!

KEEP LOOKING THEY ARE OUT THERE. We have had four very nicely restored Spartans at our Forum Rallies. They can be gorgeous inside with all the wood redone.

For a while I had my eye on one that was behind the local bowling alley being used as a storage shed. It wasn't very big either. But it was ROUGH on the outside! I would drive by it and think, I should go ask, you never know... But it would have been a BIG project.

If you really want to catch the bug check out Brian Casson's 1950 Spartan Royal Mansion videos. Probably the finest unrestored example anywhere.

Here's another lead for vintage hunters. Tugboat Jerry has two Airstreams in his front yard at 424 E Main Street, Patterson, Louisiana
His 1950's Door-in-Door Flying Cloud is striped out inside and Jerry uses it only for hauling stuff to the flea market.
He says he hasn't been made the right offer yet.
Tugboat's phone number is 985-395-5727
