Dometic Microwave/convection in an Avion

Has anyone with an Avion replaced the factory MW with a Dometic MW/Convection unit. We are thinking about doing it but are concerned with the space at the rear of the MW with the roof line curving down, thus creating too much heat. The dometic is the only one that will fit in the current cabinet (that we have found anyway), except that there is not 5" at the top of the unit in the back.

Well, since no one seems to have attempted this we thought we would go ahead and be the FIRST! (HIGHLY UNLIKELY!). We installed the dometic microwave convection in our '86 34V.

Thank you for the information. I have a 1987 34W and would be interested in anything you'd like to share about that project.

Sorry it has taken so long to reply, (one of the joys of Full timing is one of the curses: sometimes wifi service is non existent!). The unit fits well in the space of the original however the spacers need to be trimmed down (voiding the warranty).
The top spacer seems to serve as an air baffle directing air into the cooling fan. Thus it is important to install ALL of the spacers. Be prepared to lift it in place and remove it several times as you test your trimming skills.
Even with the trimmed spacers, the unit has worked well and temps have not risen to high over am hour of running the unit with outside temps in the 95 to 105 degree range.
The unit has NO SIGNIFICANT cooking instruction manual ( not surprising since it is a Dometic unit) so you will be on your own for recipes.
It fits well in place of the original unit and looks nice.

We have the 2014 Sport 22FB that came from the factory with a Cuisinart CMW 200 microwave/convection oven. I like it so much I bought one for our house. If you search the Cuisinart website, you will find the instruction manual/recipe book for this oven. Not great, but a place to start. I like it a lot, but there was a learning curve for me. First, I really recommend using a pan with low (or no) sides when using the convection feature. A small pizza pan works for us, and is very inexpensive. I have also found that I need to add anywhere from 10-20 minutes (or more) to the cooking time. This makes sense, because I preheat the oven, but when I open the door, a lot of the heat escapes. One thing to try is to put your food in while it preheats and then set the cooking time. Each oven is different. We also open the adjoining cabinet and put a small fan to blow in there to help disperse the heat.

We looked at that oven but the 10" top clearance was too much. The dometic model is only 5" which fit for the most part in our Avion.
