Curtiss Wright 5 presentation and question

Hello Airstreamists,

I am happy to present my new acquisition, my first camper trailer: a 47 Curtis Wright trailer I found it 10 minutes far from my house I was originally looking for an Airstream when someone told me about that trailer that was sitting in his yard. I am Really happy to own it. Now I would like to start by replacing the tires which involves also to clean the rims that are super rusty. I am thinking of having them sand blasted and painted. The tire size is 600 x 16 which is not super standard anymore. I was wondering if anyone has tried to put different wheels on this model of trailer.

Here is little movie showing how we brought it on the driveway. If you have any link to Curtiss Wright restoration let me know.
Aurel

Nice find! I have a 51 Silver Streak which is basically the same trailer. Do you have more pictures? Is there an interior and an entrance door?

As for the wheels. The previous owner had just put new tires on mine when I bought it. I believe they were 16" but not sure. I do know they were Power King Bias Ply tires and he got them put on at an RV place. The trailer is stored away from home so I can't look now. If you want info I can check next week when I get out there.

Nice project, you started with a desirable trailer.

Hi, I don't have any more picture yet, I'll take some this week-end and will upload them. I found tires: Coker white walls.
At least that will be done and will be a good start on that trailer!!!

More pictures to come. the inside is pretty bare beside the toilet and the hanging long cabinet and sink....
Thanks Aurel

Here are some more pictures. I just removed the wheels and hubs to have them sandblasted and painted.

Looks like a fun project. I will watch your progress as you go along. My Spring project is to get working on mine so I can use it next season.

Congratulations on your new gem!
To me that is one of the coolest looking trailers ever built.
I will be following your progress

Hello Frenchman and a warm welcome from Colorado, USA. I am an Airstream owner for 12 years but had not heard of this aluminum trailer you have. I have done some extensive work to a 66 Trade Wind, a 69 Globetrotter, a 75 Overlander, and a 86 Limited. Like Dingo Girl, I like the looks of the body on your old Curtis Wright. I imagine it will need a lot of renovations.

There are a lot of folks here that are willing to help answer questions as you move forward on your project. I believe your old aluminum trailer will be worth quite a bit when you are done with it. Heck, Dingo Girl would buy it.

Attached is a 1949 Airstream Liner that is on display at the Airstream factory in Jackson Center, Ohio. It looks similar to your trailer but with a single front window. The other trailer is an old Clipper with two crazy front windows. These old Airstreams are worth a lot of money now.

thanks everyone for your encouraging messages. I manage to bring it home on the last day of 2017 under the snow.... It's now protected and I will wait for some warmer weather to start working om it. Happy New Year.
