Bowlus Papoose for sale

On the main Bowlus website there is currently a 1935 or 1936 Bowlus Papoose (the tiny, tiny Bowlus trailer) rear kitchen model for sale. How often do you see one of these? I contacted the seller and he is looking for a trade of other 1930's trailers or old motorcycles or a cash offer in the mid five digits. It is documented that only 5 or 6 of these were made. Now I just need to find one lurking and forgotten in a barn around here!

Shipping would have been an issue as the trailer is in California and I am in cold PA. If I had unlimited funds, I would hop on it, though. I don't own anything that rare and it would be cool to do so.

Now- time to get my sights and energy back on the Bambi II project!

Oh... how much fun that could be....

You have no idea how much fun that would be! I love small, small trailers. I grew up in Dad and Mom's 31' AS, but always was drawn to the smaller ones. Funny thing about items like this Bowlus is that it was probably forgotten in a field somewhere for 30 years, then it was spotted and bought real cheap by someone who was in the right place at the right time (rarely happens to me!) and now it is in the right hands, in the right circles, and worth many thousands of dollars.

I do hope someone who knows what it is buys it and does it right. If it does not sell, the current owner is one of the most respected trailer collectors in the Country. I am sure he will eventually restore it.

BTW- not much has ever been cooler to me than seeing Der Klein Prinz at the Elkhart Museum this Summer. What an amazingly cool, tiny AS. They would do well to produce something that small again. It would sell in this economy.

Where was this trailer? The trailer that first got us thinking of buying one was what must have been a Bolus Papoose at a junk yard in Richmond, CA. Driving by we saw it, went in and the old guy wouldn't part with it. It was amazing, like 30s science fiction...

This one is in CA and still for sale as far as I know...for $35,000. It is currently owned by famed trailer collector Vince Martinico.

If I saw one in a junkyard...well, that would be the cooled thing and I would hope the owner would let me rescue it!

I wondered if it could be the same one that we saw 10 years ago. After I read the posts here, I looked on line to see what there was... I had been looking for a picture of "the mystery trailer" that we saw so long ago and never finding it. So few were made that it could be the same one. I've never seen the same trailer again driving by over the years. We did see a Bolus at a car show in central Orinda last summer, it was very, very cool.

Wow, $35k..
