Veggiebullet,

I had very good luck stripping thick layers of paint with plastic razor blades.... Kinda hard to find locally though... See the link in my blog, it's only one post back

I think these were the sealant removal discs that were discussed before...

We were thinking about a plastic spatula instead of the metal but we like that a lot.

I added the link for the adhesive removal tool above.... The key in stripping is a sharp blade always... But the more aggressive strippers melt plastic, so you may have a trade-off. Looking forward to reading this too!

Veggie you're making good progress on that old girl! I know it's a lot of effort, but keep up the good work. You're getting her squared away now!

This thing will be really cool when you' get it all done!

Hi AldeanFan!
Thanks for the link. It should be nice to have the match...
We worte them and hope that they write back, they are saying only 40 made? We saw 200 somewhere else and the 75 from another guy...so how about 40+200+75= 315/3 = 105!!

Avion 38.5M " The Whale"

I just found this forum.

I am also fixing a 1990 Avion 38.5M.

I have a large maount of wiring diagrams and factory paperwork that applies to this model

I am will to share with anyone if needed, once I get my unit back from the repairing dealer here in South Texas.

I am currently updating my trailer with the following.

Aircraft Leather Interior

Repainting lower basement doors (and repairing damaged fiberglass around the hinges)

hardwood flooring.

50 Amp cuircut.

7 K watt generator

redoing brakes

adding washer/dryer combo.

Onboard fue; tank for generator

Repainting nose and small section of fiberglass roof section

Replaced under belly skin

Added Black water tank washers

new insulation int he floors along with replacement of some damaged plywood int he storage lockers.

I am planning on refinishing the cabinets, replacing the counter tops with Corian and adding a motorcycle lift to the rear to handle the Harley.

I found this unit in NC and towed it back to TX. WOW what a long trip. Pulled nice, but you can free the weight.

Cool on Second Whale!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Lordcam,

Sounds great!! Welcome aboard! I'd especially like to see what you're doing with the Harley lift. I want to bring my V-Rod with us on vacations but wasn't sure the best way to do it. I'd thought about widening my main door, removing one cabinet, and parking it crossways in the trailer while hauling.

Just be careful of getting her too tail heavy. That's bad for handling. But please, send us some pics. Sounds like an awesome project! You'll have the inside fixed up like a B-747 First Class cabin

Several custom made lift of my design will make the Harley easly to load and the back end will not be that heavy. It is offset by the generator and generator gas tank in the front..

With regards to the number of Whales made. Cayo said 50, maybe 75, but no more. The cost was to high in 1990, as a Whale cost 75K plus upgrades.

I don't know what the frame is made out of, but if it was an Airstream, you couldn't hang a Harley on the back of it.
