My son-in-law is coming to pick it up today. I'll be paring down to one trailer with the boys until I go home😊

Well, life is back to normal again. I'm home & started putzing on the trailer again. Just before I left for camping, I noticed the storage locker where the electric & water is located had a rotten bottom. The curbside locker didn't hold screws very well either. So, I thought that would be a good project for inside during this hot week!

It's a pretty straight-forward project. First I removed the doors. The curbside one weighed a ton! As suspected, it was water-logged. The seams on the top had no sealer on them. The inside piece, which is vinyl covered aluminum, was nasty. I had some leftover aluminum from my belly pan & used that instead. All in all it was a pretty simple thing to do, if you have the right tools. I used my bandsaw for most of it, but one could use a jig saw instead. I cleaned up all the outer pieces with my little polisher that I stole from my son (thanks, Paul). I sealed all the screw holes with Tempro & along the edges of the outside rim with Parbond. Hopefully, they'll last another 25 years. And now for your viewing pleasure:

That's a nice rebuild. A neighbor has a '75 with no rear storage door, any of the 'Airstream' stuff that's available is big money so we are thinking about buying a SOB painted assembly, taking it apart and rebuilding with new aluminum. It would save about $300.

If you could get the channel, it would be a piece of cake to make. Especially for you, Vernon! Does your neighbor have an Avion?

I finished redoing all 10 windows. Whew! Was that a long, tedious job! Glad to move on to other things. I was really pleased when the blue stripe just washed away when I initially washed the beast. But a thick layer of adhesive was left behind. I tried all the chemical warfare I had, including aircraft stripper, but it was tuff to remove. I saw a bucket of heavy duty adhesive remover at Menards the other day & thought I'd give it a shot. Amazingly, it worked! I applied it about three times & with some elbow grease, it's all gone. I'm leaving it without a blue stripe. I like it plain. Now to move on to cleaning up the body in preparation for Everbrite. I have some really nice awnings waiting to go on, but first things first!Click image for larger version

I've been prepping for the Everbrite application lately. I put it on my last Avion & was pretty happy with it. I scrubbed like everyone with a chalky Avion does, but didn't make much headway on it. I've experimented with scotch brite pads on a mini air polisher. The very fine grey roloc pads work very well. Green is too aggressive (took the anodizing off in the inconspicuous spot I tried it). I tried ultra fine pads on a RO polisher, but it's not aggressive enough. Have some maroon ones coming & will try them out. I did put the Everbrite on in a small section I finished cleaning up. Looks pretty good. Here's a few pictures of the progress so far: Click image for larger version

Today was awful outside, so I started on my floor. It's going along pretty well & it was nice to work inside where it was cool!Click image for larger version

Why EBrite and not, say, Sharkhide (or another product)?

My late gen Silver Streak (1989) has a nice enough exterior, but I'm curious.

And how long do you expect it to last? Can it be touched up?

I used Sharkhide first & removed it. It seems to attract dirt & I just didn't like it much. I used Par Fe, as lots of Avion owners have used, and I REALLY didn't like it. It didn't last long at all. I heard good things about Everbrite & used it on my previous Avion. It has a nice glossy finish. It's easy to apply. It can be reapplied over the previous coat since it's self-annealing (the first coat melts into the next coat). I asked the new owners of my previous Avion how the finish is holding up (I put it on a year ago) and the said it looks great.

Thx. EBrite used on an SS to my knowledge (in TX) lasted well past five years before being sold.

I installed a new microwave. I kept my door panels from my fridge in my previous Avion. Attachment 265987

Can I ask what kind of paint you used on the plastic? It looks very nice.
Thank you for the advice on the Fernco fittings.
Good luck on your new project!

Go to some of the old threads where we discussed using buffered acid products to work over mineral stains. Also, Blue Beacon with directions to personnel on using their formulation. Called "two stepping", where acid is followed by alkaline to neutralize. Cleaned mine right up the day I bought it. IOW, prep before EBrite or what have you.

Finished Everbrite on the curbside (minus the storage locker area). The dang birds kept dropping on it, so I wanted to get it done so it wipes off easily! I may do a second coat later.Click image for larger version
