Your water pump, if stock, is undoubtedly a PAR diaphragm pump. They leaked. They are (were?) re-build-able, but were I to do it today, I'd just replace it with a modern pump.

I knew ours had the leaf springs, and a larger one that my Dad had did also, but I did not know they ever had the rubber springs. I remember ours was a 23', but other than it being 80's, I don't remember the actual year.
