WOW! Pretty cool ~ can't wait to see this one come to life again! If I only had the room...I'd have a Spartan too! Oh well, I'll have to live vicariously through you for now!

Ditto, theres just something about an old Sparten. We have one near us thats sits beside someones house for years and i find my eyes go towards it every time i pass by. I so want to rescue it too... but the airstream continues to drain my budget! LOL

Good luck with it..

Balrgn: Nice find. Here are some pictures of a restored Spartan we saw in Estes Park CO several years ago. Maybe they will be helpful in restoring your diamond.

Colorado Spartan

If you want to contact the owner of the Spartan photographed in Estes Park, PM me and I'll get you his info. Brian's a neighbor of ours and recently joined the Airstream family, too!

Spartan??? Is this relative to Airstream? We recently on our travels discovered a FAN
Travel Trailer. Not related to Airstream...but it is silver. Guess some of us get the fever? Does anyone know anything about FAN? Regards, Aria

Actually not related.
Here is a nice site that has photo's and information. Good history/trivia.

Spartan Aircraft Trailercoaches

The Fan coach company was started in 1954 by Franklin A. Newcomer hence the name FAN it's last year of production was 1980.

Found the info here

http://www.jcshop.netfirms.com/Camper.htm

Enjoy!

balrgn...thanks for the site. YES...this is similar to our 1961 FAN. Birch interior.
Exterior in excellent condition.

Interior needs a little work. Wood is birch. We need fresh water and gray water tanks. All original. The 9 x 9 floor tiles in good condition too. Except for 4 (water damage). We will remove good tiles from under bed and make an exchange. Minor
things to do. Thanks again, Aria

Awesome- congrats on the new baby. Keep us posted with photos. I have been looking for one of those- would like to make a studio out of it. How did it tow- compared to the Airstream?

Towed fine, however, it has a narrow wheel base. A little strange looking back on roads with a crown. There is not much left inside so it was very light, got 18 MPG with my diesel on the way home. The short tongue makes for an interesting tow as well. I'll be extending that before we go out too far again. Wish I had a way to weigh it, right now I don't think it's more than 2500#

Keep an eye on my website, I update as I go

About 10 miles

I know of one of those about 10 miles from us, that has been neglected for year.. but it's the single axle smaller one... and oh so cool. When I catch the people that own the land there (and I will one day), I'll be taking my chain saw (to cut the trees that have grown around it down to move it) and bringing her home. Meanwhile, I went and saw something special yesterday - I've posted it on my blog.. about 30 miles from us! My fingers are crossed as the owner bought it in 1953 - he's 91. Sweet Sovereign of the Road
