1986 Avion 34V

I just purchased a 1986 Avion 34 foot, tri axle version. I would appreciate any advice or comments. This is my first Airstream/Avion. I haven't picked her up yet. That comes next week, probably Tuesday.
Thanks in advance for your comments/advice.

Very cool. There seem to be lots of 34' Avions of that vintage on the market. By all reports they're solid trailers and you can go far with any renovations you might perform.

Welcome to the forum Air-Hal. We're glad you've joined us and congratulations on the Avion.

Avion made a fine trailer. They are distinctly different than Airstream in that they have an anodized exterior skin, use spray foam insulation, and are usually heavier than their Airstream counterparts.

As you prepare for the "Pick Up Date" you may want to take some time to make sure you're prepared. The things that come to mind are issues surrounding your tow vehicle, hitching and braking systems, and the condition of the trailer tires, bearings, and lights.

Any information you can provide relative the your experience and setup will surely garner some feedback from the members here.

Welcome again,

Kevin

Thank you. I will be towing "her" with a 93 Chevy G20 full size van 350 V8. This is the 3/4 quarter ton, and I put new shocks, and new "truck" tires on the van. Does anyone know the height of the Avion "ball height" to keep her level? I dont know if I need to adjust the height of my hitch or not. Thanks.

Not sure about 1986. Our hitch is set at 19" for our 1973.

The ball size should be 2-5/16".

Other questions would be:

What is the age/condition of the trailer tires?

Do you have a brake controller installed in your tow vehicle?

Have you verified the towing capacity of the van? IIRC a 34' Avion is going to be in the 10,000 lb. +/- weight range.

Here's a link to the manual for the 87 year model which is similar to yours may help you.

Good luck,

Kevin

Thanks for the link to the manual, Kevin!

The tires are supposed to be "70%", but I will find out what that means when I get there!

Yes, I am getting a brake controller installed Monday.
