1963 Silver Streak Question

Good afternoon!

I have a newbie question. I'm going to take a look at a friends 1963 silver streak, he said it's a 28' (I'm assuming trailer length not including the tongue). He bought it 3 years ago and had it looked through. New axles, wheels, fresh water tank, had it checked for rust on the frame and anything that needed to be fixed, fixed. He is asking $8,500.00 for it.

I tried finding info on a 1963 28' Silver Streak, but did not find much. My best guess is that it's a Continental Supreme? I saw some pictures of it already, it's clean inside and stocked with dishes and such, and a brand new mattress as well all of which it comes with. It is anodized but does not have the gold band going around it. I did see the front of it and don't recall seeing that rock guard thay normally covers the bid middle front window. I searched but could not find how much a replacement is, or even where to purchase one.

He's actually never used it since he had everything fixed. He mentioned that it has the Queen bed in it.

My question is, is this a fair price, assuming what he said is true?

Thanks in advance!

If everything said is true and the inside is in great shape then YES its a fair price. Pictures would be helpful. The front rock guard is aluminum and would have to be custom made unless your lucky and found a used one. I have a 63 model 24. This means a 20 ft box. Check floor carefully for rot.

1963 Silver Streak Question

See www.tompatterson.com

A fifty year old trailer is all about a condition. And what the market will bear. Seems a little high to me, I'd certainly want all new or full reconditioned appliances. Suspension taken apart and rebuilt. Etc.

That said it kind of comes down to how much you want it. One can have an SS from the early 1980s at that price and in VG condition (just run down and needs cosmetics).

Frankly, it's a given one will spend $10k or more on a 25-yr old trailer or older. So, it has to be a trailer that one loves. They all need work. Maintenance and upgrades.

There are some early and mid 1960s Streamline owners around here as well as some Silver Steak owners. You might ask their opinion. Read their posts and threads. Take photos and post them of this TT.

But don't expect too much. It really is how you feel about dedicating time, money and your own work.

If you don't travel too far, probably okay. If you want to live on the road for months, the really old ones need extensive inspection. Removing panels, replacing wiring and plumbing, etc.

Thanks for the responses! I've checked out Tom Patterson website, tons of great information on there as well.

Slowmover: Yeah I'd like to use this for road trips and such. My wife has never seen a single national park but we love road trips, so the plan is to travel as much as possible and visit them.

I figured most of the work is already done, but after reading these forums extensively over the past few weeks, it's more than safe to assume I'll need to fix somethings. I want to say he said the wiring and plumbing have been fixed but, anyone can say anything!

Thanks again! Live these forums, everyone is always helpful and kind. Great folks here. Hopefully sooner or later (hopefully sooner) I can be an actual TT owning forum member.
