Don't know if this matters now, but I called the Utah DMV this week about my 46 Spartan. They were very helpful and told me the lower the value of the trailer the less research they would do......made a difference of 6 or more weeks to getting the title the same day
Lucky me I have a bill of sale for $300.00
Love the photos, keep us informed.

The title and plate showed up today for the trailer. I was very happy untill I noticed the title has it listed as a fleetwood!!!!!! I don't think it will be a big deal to have that fixed I HOPE!!! How the heck could they come up with fleetwood?

Avion was owned by Fleetwood after the Cayo brothers sold it to them, long after your trailer was built.

Thats the only thing I can think of as well. I put Avion down as the manf but they must have thought I did not know what I have. More messing around with the DOT coming up.

You definitely need to get it changed. Also, don't wait to do it or they will blame you for the problem.

Good news! The guy at the DOT had me return the title and he is going to change the name of the manufacturer to Avion for me. Finally I will have a correct title free and clear for it. Now I just need some time to start working on it.

Congratulations on getting the Title cleared up. The reason that you don't want to wait is that they aren't going to fess up to their mistake if you don't bring it to their attention in a reasonable period of time.

Now I understand my affection for old trailers.
I have always thought the old silver bullet trailers were cool but never really knew much about them or had anything to do with them until I decided to start looking for a late fifty’s model a few years back. I just noticed an old friend in a picture of myself from Easter of 1966. I was 1 1/2 years old. That trailer must have imprinted on me somehow. I don't remember it but I know that was taken at my grandparents’ house. I was infected with the bug and it laid dormant for 45 years before it took hold.

Thanks Lisa, I hope to slowly bring her back to her former glory and I plan to keep this thread updated as I work on her. I just sent the mearuments in to get a bid on a new axle and I hope to get it orderd this week and installed soon after that. I have a deal with my wife that we will be spending some time in the trailer this summer even if its not much more then a tent on wheels.

Happy Easter!
I am thinking about our trailer and the PIA it is to take a shower b/c there is no mount in the shower for the shower head. I looked at your photos to see if you had a photo of yours... I see you are retrofitted with the fabulous black kitchen sink sprayer too . However, do you have an old mount in your shower? If you do, can you post a photo? One of my goals this year is to have it mounted somehow.
By the way, I don't know if I ever knew that your trailer had the "full" size bed. I love it. I love the curves underneath it! Your trailer is awesome, it does look like you've got some water damage to the floor, but if you get that fixed, you are going to LOVE that trailer. We love ours.
Thanks!!
Tina

Here are two pictures. I don't know if it is the correct holder but I do not see any other holes in the area were something else would have gone. I hope it helps.

Steve,
That is fabulous. I am sure we have a hole in the same spot. It kind of reminds me of a utility catch, like for brooms and such. Thank you so much for taking the time to send the photo.
How goes the work?

Tina the work on the trailer is SLOW. I don't have much free time and even less money right now for the trailer so not much is going to happen for a while.

One smalll step
Well here we go. I told myself I was too busy to mess around with the trailer but I decided to take a break and look her over this afternoon. One thing led to another and…..
I pulled the wood off around one side of the entry and pulled the seat out as well. I took them to the local wood worker (mad scientist) to see if he could fix, repair and or replace the damage parts. After I got back my foot almost went through the floor so I grabbed a hammer and started pulling up part of the floor to see what was underneath because it was driving me crazy. It looks similar to many pictures I have seen on this very forum. I was wearing a paper mask but decided to stop until I can pick up a better mask / respirator because it’s nasty mouse /rat nests and the original asbestos tile. I see I will need to replace at least one of the out riggers by the steps but the main frame looks pretty good so far. I will finish removing the rest of the seats, furnace, frig and the water tank before I remove any more of the floor. Anyone want to take a guess as to how much of the original floor will be left when I get done tearing out the rotten stuff. I am a little nervous I am going to be replacing the whole floor. But if that what it takes…. that’s what it takes. I will not how ever pull the shell off. NO way NO how (I hope).

Oh boy, does that look familiar!
My 2 cents - you "shouldn't" have to take the top off, that's my initial reaction, but can't guarantee it. The way the skin is on an Avion, the outer skin sides go way under and aren't riveted at the floor line. However, there are about a MILLION screws that were holding the floor in place. They are under the strip around the ends of the trailer. There are big bolts too in the frame. We replaced the floor in the front under the water tank, and the way the Avion is built, I don't think you need to do a shell off. HOWEVER, you DO need to have some pieces of wood to insert where you take out the wood floor to support the shell as it the inner skin/shell rests on the floor.
In our thread, you can see in post #48 where we replaced the front section and we did it in two pieces. I have tons of photos, not sure if any of them are perfect for what you may want to see, but can send some to you if you'd like.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f417...n-79207-4.html
Good luck. Take lots of photos! They'll be great reference later.
Tina
PS - Home Depot does sell the inserts for the respirator masks that are good for asbestos removal. Not too expensive. As you know, just try not to break it up into too many pieces. :-)
