1949 AirFloat -- what'$ it worth?

I spotted this at a local business that does metal fabrication.

I'd talked with the the owner early in the spring (during my "search") when he had a wrecked 2004 Safari w/slideout. (Still available, BTW) I called him about this cool looking coach. He said it is for sale, that it's a 1949 AirFloat (the door tag says: AirFloat Land Yacht--easy on your car!)
He admitted he had no idea what it's worth but said he's asking $4500 and invited me to come look at the inside which he said is in good condition. I did a little googling and it looks like these had birch interiors. I couldn't find anything about the "Land Yacht" model tho', and Google didn't return very many hits. Just curious as to thoughts about a fair price for this rig.

Depends on what it looked like on the inside, it should have the birch wood but it may be water stained in areas from leaks. They are so cool and retro looking sounds like a fair price to me. Would make a great companion for your Airstream.

hey Happycampers-
did you say you had located an Airfloat in a barnyard near Peterborough? I'm new at this "Search for your Holy Grail TT" thing, but I've not come across an Airfloat in Canada yet. Puh-leeze fill me in, if possible!!! And thanks to Blu Hwy Lady for getting my Airfloat dreams a-swirlin'. I am thrilled to find through this forum that I am not alone in my quest for a cool road nest!

Deco.girl, Not sure, after looking at the pictures I took. Might be a different year. Couldn't get a full pic of it. Annie

wow- looks quite AirFloaty to me..... well, that makes me feel better. I still might have to go to New Mexico to find an AirFloat, but now I know that there were/are some in Canada. If you ever happen to see a 'for sale' sign on it, I'd be thrilled to know. Thanks for posting the photo!

My wife and I found an Airfloat for sale and did some research on them awhile back. These models had support rods on the outside of the trailer which ran from the hitch to a point just below the windows. They attach to the wood structure of the trailer. Look for warping of the exterior skin around this area which will indicate rotten wood or a bent frame.

I saw a pictures of Airfloats, a '53 (exterior) and a '55 (interior), in Doug Keister's book, "Silver Palaces". He had some fun info in there about them as well. You gotta love that classic look!

1950 airfloat

We just saw our first Airfloat yesterday, fell in love, and would like to know if yours is still for sale? We're close to Walnut Creek, and would like to see it if you still have it.

Thanks!

Jana, to get the attention of the original poster in an old thread like this, your best bet is to Quote the first post. Hopefully they will get an email about the new post.

Good luck,

Peter
