Can't believe I stumbled on this thread at 3:00 in the morning. Lol
Glad I did. Just picked up a spartan royal manor 1955, 35 footer. She is in decent shape for 62 years young. I will be doing a total restoration interior and exterior, frame and chassis in good shape though. This thread really has encouraged me, you did a fine job...
I should be taking delivery in about a month, stay tuned....
ive heard conflicting information about that style polishing process. because these early spartans had the thin layer of true aluminum the heavy speed polishing process can burn right through that layer. that thin layer gives the early trailers the true brilliant mirror shine. maybe someone who has actually fully polished a spartan can weigh in.
I know for my 46 spartan with heavy corrosion im using a dewalt rotary buffer at about 900rpm. with f9 nuvite polish its very slow going requiring several passes. after the f9 ill switch to f7 and eventually c grade polish. it takes me about an hr to do a 2ft by 2ft area compared to how these guys can pound through an area much quicker. I just dont want to eat up that thin layer of aluminum by doing it the wrong way.
