Well the plans sound impressive. I am sure it will turn out well. I am debating what sort of interior mods I am going to make to mine. I am not nuts about the whole coucho thing. I will probably put it back in there when I get through with the front end R&R. We used a futon last fall but it was not good for sitting at the table. Last fall I barely got the rear floor back in before going to FL twice. I have not had time to R&R the coucho and put it back in. I figure we need to live with it for a while to give me some inspiraton on what would be better. I am thinking a large dinet arrangment for the front. I will make a scale drawing and maybe a 3D model of the trailer so I can play with different layouts. We have a rear bedroom twin now and I like that arrangement with the bath in the center. Like you say, you can divide the living space from the bedroom area. Once the front living area is squared away, I want to either replace the existing plastic coated laun or at least put some cherry or oak vinear over it. The interior is not in bad shape right now so I am in no hurry.

Kip,
This whole thread is an inspiration and a great source of reference material to anyone who wants to learn more about sheet metal work and vintage trailer restoration. I've gone through and copied many of the pictures into a folder on my hard drive and I've created a Microsoft Word document of selected posts and pictures that is currently twelve pages long.

I also want to thank you for reviewing the thread on my floor restoration and leaks. I'm documenting our discussion on the approach to my own repairs.

I am truly in your debt sir!

Steve

Just wanted to jump in at the end of this threadnaught and just say, wow amazing work. Always great to see a skilled and experienced person having fun and building something better than it was designed in the first place. Wish there was a way to save your skills and knowledge on a disk and somehow upload it to my brain! Until then I'll keep plugging away doing the best I can with my 68 Tradewind. Very keen to see your finished interior pics!

Well believe it or not I have been working on the GT again. Sorry no pictures this time but you can just reference the pic's on post's 399,413,427,and 429 for details. Since Monday I have opened up the street side upper lap seam and resealed it, I also installed stringers on the same seam as it had none previously.

I also removed the two street side vista view windows, both street side windows, and the rear window. I removed the "lets create a leak" foam gaskets, sealed and re-shot the rivets.

Today I am going to install the street side grey tank/kitchen sink vent.

Next week I plan on installing two Fantastic Fans in a way that has never been seen on the forums before. It will be a little overkill but the fans will sit flat on the roof without the edges bent down to conform to the hulls curvature.

Kip,
It's good that you're back home for a while after globe trotting yourself! And it's good and therapeutic that you're getting to work on your trailer. I'm interested to see what you're going to do on the fans. I installed one on the rear of my trailer and used two gasket thicknesses on the outboard edges and then I transitioned/tapered the thickness for the front and rear gaskets to conform to the contour of the radius of the roof (full second thickness outboard to zero thickness toward the centerline).

Jim,
I used the extra gasket material that came with the Fantastic Vent Fan. When you get the fan kit, the square gasket comes with a good bit of extra gasket material. The actual gasket is a perforated perimeter around a square central field of the same gasket material. I cut this extra material into four corner pieces and some extra lineal strips using the actual gasket that had been removed as a template. I used double thickness on the left and right sides, all four corners and sculpted the thickness of the center sections (around the radius of the roof) using a packaging cutter blade.

new toy

I picked up this brake last spring and I finally got it refurbished and in my shop. It's a Dries & Krump 5ft X 12Ga. I still have to sand blast the fingers and repaint them

Wow! that looks much more useful than the 1936 9" South Bend Lathe that I just bought and refurbished.
