I got an idea. You could just design and build a thermoform tool for ABS plastic and make it as one piece.

metal interior end caps

Kip, Did you ever build a roller tool for the small flange on the end cap panels, like demo'd at the New Mexico workshop, and if so are any for sale? I ordered 12 pre-cut flat panels from a wholesaler, and am wondering if I really need to put that small bend in the panel. There is a fellow on YT that shows how he installed the panels without the bend, and it seems to look ok.

Thoughts?

thanks
Mike

No Mike I did not. They are easily made with a couple of bearing. They are also available commercially where ever fine aircraft tools are sold. Zep was at my house the other day and stated he had found some. Maybe he will respond. Zep??

I did not roll a flange on my interior panels

Good for furniture too when you're planning the interior!

Kip,

Have you "treated" or modified the surface of the interior aluminum you've installed? It may just be the picture but it looks matt or sanded.

Looks great!

thanks

It's sanded because my wife told me I wanted to paint the interior aluminum white.

Will you be using Zolatone or something local that’s more available? We used Kilz Adhesive for a primer. It really sticks.

I will be using an aluminum acid prep followed with alodine. Epoxy primer next followed up with polyurethane white. I will most likely spray the first coat normally and then turn the atomizing pressure down on the gun and up on the pressure pot. This will create a textured white surface.

What is your reasoning for wanting a textured surface versus a smooth surface that's easier to clean? I plan on using the same materials on my roof if it ever stops raining.

Right now it's esthetics, although it has not been approved by the higher authority.

Gotta have all the necessary approvals or you will go on report for insubordination.

I painted my 69 Globetrotter interior a slightly off white. I used paint designed for exterior aluminum windows. I was guessing it could take the "coefficient of thermo-expansion" of the aluminum between summer hot and winter cold. Mine is textured as I painted right over the vinyl. My skills are nowhere close to yours.
