Couple of questions:
- What thickness and material did you use for the door and also the interior box?
- How are you dealing with water penetration? Sealing or maybe drain path?
Thanks - Mark

The whole thing is made from .063 6061-T6 except one .032 shim. Need the shim to increase the skin cutout thickness for the .063 door to set flush on the doubler. The whole assembly is shot together wet with Sikaflex 221 so the cavity is completely sealed off from the inside of the trailer. The extruded hinge is the drain. I've done this type of access panels on aircraft.

Well I'm going to have to eat some crow here. Way back in this thread somewhere, I stated my hatred of pop rivets. Well today is the day I started using them. I started the forward interior dome, and I just couldn't get my old arthritic hands in between the inner and outer panels to install solid rivets. Anyway below is where I'm at. Heat finally drove me into the house. 90° outside now and inside the trailer is a lot hotter. I'm thinking the AC install is moving up the to do list.

Having eaten more than one crow, I have some excellent recipes and I recommend pino grigio to go with it.
BTW, that one row of pop rivets in my dome don't seem all that visible and I couldn't have installed it in one piece, no way.

Uh, Kip, you have no insulation?
Chris just installed an aluminum headliner that we got from Colin Hyde in our trailer, and used over 400 pop rivets. He could never have put it together before installation (as the instructions said). He installed it in place. He'll post pics in our Little Girl Refurb thread today.

Excellent choice on the wine Zep.
Chris and Kay, insulation going in as I go. Riveted section has Havewool insulation already installed.
I have to take down what I have already installed though. I forgot to install the speaker wires. Stupid mistake, I got in a hurry.

Well, I had to take interior skins off a couple of times during our refurb because I forgot wires... That's easier than rebuilding a plywood skinned wall!

Eat an elephant one bite at a time.
Build an interior aluminum end cap one rivet at a time.
Making all those segments fit must be a rear bear.

Aerowood, I am just discovering your thread and I love what I am seeing. Quick question what are these flush latches that you are using on your water inlet door? Any reference?

I saw that a lot of experimental /home made plane builders were using a particular Sherwin Williams spackle in the pop rivet head holes; it seemed like an awful idea but for my project at least has worked flawlessly. (I did use a hypodermic syringe though).

The latches are made by Hartwell and are called a Trigger Lock. I believe the base p/n is H-5000-2, there is also thickness numbers for the thickness of the panel it's to be installed on. In my case the latch if for a .072 panel and my door is .063, close enough.
Just do a Goggle search for "Hartwell Latch" several should show up. I hope this helps.

Do you have a specific supplier for these?

I don't have a specific supplier, I've been collecting these for years including removing them from junked panels and such. I really have a variety pack of different styles and sizes. I scored big time a few years ago when I found a box of them at a military surplus store in California, I think it was Mojave or could have been Palmdale. I can't resist a surplus store regardless of wherever I am at the time.

You did it. Another Globetrotter build milestone. A lot more robust than the thermo-formed plastic one. It is interesting to see in the photo how the reflection of the trailer interior makes the new aluminum segment end cap look convex out instead of the physical concave in.
