A long time Colorado resident friend told me there are more rock strikes in windshields in Colorado than any other state. I have had one myself in the last 5 years. I see a rock guard on your Airstream in the near future.

Nice job as usual on the repair. All you need is Bucky Beaver back and you are ready to reassemble the window.

Wha??? You can just rotate the glass 180 and it fits the other side? I don't know why, but wing windows have always looked slightly narrower at the top.

Uhh.....no, it's the inner pane of the dual pane. The last one I used was the outer pane.

OK. From your original post I got the idea you reversed the glass for the other side.

So when you "fixed" the window the first time, you just made it a single pane unit? That sounds like a great idea. When I redid the double windows on my Sovereign, that would have saved me a lot of frustration!

Hi Aerowood: Good to see you back at it. As usual, you built an aircraft quality vent fan mount. It will never leak or sag. I installed a max-air vent fan in the son's 69 Globetrotter. It has a hood over it so it can be opened in a light shower. Otherwise, the 10 blade fan draws a lot of warm air out, and you can reverse the motor and use it as a ceiling fan if you like. It is so much more advanced than the Airstream 4 blade single speed original vent fan which made more noise than it moved air.

I've got my bucker coming over Tuesday. Shouldn't be any issues shooting it in. I am going to do the air conditioner mount the same way, I have all the parts made already.

Great to see you back and recovered from the shoulder repair. We have been looking forward to your return to work on the Globetrotter and following its progress. Did you use 2024 or 5052 alloy to make the vent fan mount?

I used 6061-T6, it's a weldable alloy, easy to bend with a 1/8" radius die without cracking, and strength wise it's close to 2024-T3 but not quite.

Fan mount all shot together, will install Tuesday. Still need to "Hershey Kiss the nut plates for that extra layer to prevent leaks. Click image for larger version

Fan mount all shot in wet using PRC 1422 B1/2 sealant. For those who care I used MS20470A5-5 AND -6 rivets. I then installed the fan. Click image for larger version

Looks great. That fan will keep the air in your Globetrotter fresh all the time.

Super Mod

Thank goodness my wife does not look at Airforums! She would look at this thread and say "why can't you do this?"
My response would be..."normal humans can't do this, only super machinists can", only people with awesome skills, great tools, and knowledge regarding how how to use them, can do these things.

I give this mod 5 stars! *****

This mod seems humble in nature, but in realty its very well designed, thought out, and executed. Putting flat fixtures on a domed roof always seemed to be a bad design to me.

BTW>> I still use the aluminum roller, that I got from you, its a great tool.

I may shoot you a note regarding a front interior aluminum ceiling multi-panel, end cap, I just trashed my plastic one. I thought I saw you and a few other folks build the panels at the 2012 restoration rally with a hand roller bender of some sort. WOW,,,where did all those years go?

Was it that long ago. It wasn't me that did the dome it was Zep, that did it, I think. I will be making segmented interior end caps in the future though.
I'm starting the Air Con mount today, it will have slightly wider flanges though.
Trying to get all of the fuselage cutouts done before the snow flys.

Bauxter, we just bought what you're looking for from Colin Hyde. $450 plus shipping. We have a cracked front interior end cap and are going to replace/cover it with this new one. Now we just have to figure out how to do it...

Aerowood was correct, it was me. I am replumbing that Safari before I do the interior (got distracted with my '73 Safari, which I use at Burning Man). Anyway, you can make the segmented interior panels using just a shrinker and an edging tool. As I recall I made a 3/4" bent edge (about 15 degrees) along the triangle panel, then shrank the edge in order to get the right curve. Lay the bent edge along the unbent edge of the next panel and cleco. Wallaa!

Do you use butyl tape between the shell and the added mounting frame, at the connection point?
