You're right,, John. Ag&Au was quick on the trigger as well. For me, the place was very out-of-the-way. But folks here have been everywhere, I think,

Now if I can find my pic of the concrete ships......

Try this: Can anyone identify where the pic was taken of an ancient Airstream predecessor shown as my avatar?

Pat, your avatar is too small for me to get any of the background information. And I'm on a 22 inch monitor.

Perhaps if you post it in the form of a photo, some of us will check it out.

I believe it a shepherd's wagon, so I'm going to guess Wyoming. maybe In the Red desert in the Great divide Basin.

Pretty small to see. But Scotts Bluff maybe.

Fair enough. Here is the photo, plus one of the natural feature we were on our way to see. Perhaps you wouldn't need 4-wheel drive to get there, but the higher ground clearance was comforting.

This is in the Colorado side of Dinosaur National Monument. The feature (bluff, monument, mesa) is at Echo Park, just where the Yampa meets the Green River. The shepherd's wagon is on the road - trail, really - down to the river. There are petroglyphs and rock art along the road. The road is steep when it first drops down from the plateau but I saw a big caddie (not the suv model) on my way up. I assume he made it back up.

The wagon is in real good shape for something that has sat outside for such a lone time. You can peek in and see all the drawers and compartments that made the place livable.

Back up on top of the plateau you can walk across a slim neck and see where the rivers meet on one side, then look over at the other to see the Green River on its way to meet the Colorado at Canyonlands.

I understand the Dinosaur Fossil Gallery is back open again. That is a wondrous sight - to see the jumble of fossils wonderfully preserved and carefully exposed.

I highly recommend that park - Vernal is the closest city.

Pat

Looks like Chimney Rock, Chimney Rock National Historic Site, Nebraska.

"Chimney Rock has become one of the most famous landmarks in the American West. This unique formation--the most noted on the Oregon Trail--has come to symbolize the greatest voluntary migration in the history of mankind. The site is adminstered by the Nebraska State Historical Society which operates the Ethel and Christopher J. Abbot Visitor Center at the Chimney Rock National Historic Site. The Visitor Center features museum exhibits explaining the westward migration of the nineteenth century and the significant role Chimney Rock had in the memories of those who traveled the trails west."

It is the "You're Number One" monument.

Just a reminder to take lots of pictures on your 2014 travels.

Season II will start with this years new photos on November 1, 2014.

With the great cameras we have today, there should be some awesome pictures and stories to tell.

Stay tuned.

Take a closer look at the picture. It's not the hills, but what's in the hills, and I will say it is the only one in the United States.
