Yes, it's a salt mine. This one is located in Hutchinson Kansas and may be the only one open to public tours. It has been in operation for over 90 years and goes on for miles more than 600’ underground. There is a very large storage facility down there due to the constant temperature and humidity and is home to many of the original Hollywood films. The mine is a series of rooms and columns that somewhat resembles a checker board that seems to go on forever. At part of the tour they turn off the lights briefly to impress just how dark it is down there. While not seen with the lights on, the salt dust is quite obvious in the camera's flash.

OK, here's another easy one for you. What is this a picture of, and from where was it taken?

When I saw that shot after I got back home I pitied the fool and decided to get some weight distribution and sway control

Man! You put up tuff ones. There's lots of rocks out there, and not a whole lot of terrain in that picture for clues.

Hint: A scoutmaster(!) was recently arrested for tipping one of these over. For "safety". Also, this state park was featured prominently in the Tim Allen comedy Galaxy Quest.
Pretty exotic for us Easterners.

More rocks....
Another from the great West. Name the place, and the area in the place where the photo was taken. Hint: You have to hike to the area but not the place.
