Looks like the same grotto in Sweet Dreams, the Patsy Cline biop.

So, I'll take a guess. The Winchester/Martinsburg area of W. Virginia?

Where Is This?

This should be an easy one as lots of clues.

Try to ignore the auto altitude warning?

Yes, #584 is located in Canada on a busy tourist route.

ding ding ding - Correct.

We were hesitant to take our kayaks out, but then we saw others from the overlook and decided it was ok.

It absolutely was - you can paddle into and through some of the caves, but I didn't want to spend too much time in there. Rocks fall, you know.

If you follow I-81 to its very northern end, this is what I think you'll find.

I will give #584 to you Pat as your instructions are correct. One would have to cross the border to reach this bridge which takes you off Hill Island to the mainland of Ontario. The Ontario highway ID changes to #137 for this stretch that joins with #401 east or west a couple miles north beyond the bridge.
The Thousand Islands Bridge.

Just around the corner in the next segment of this video is the location of Quiz #27 earlier in this "Where Is This" thread.

Another clue for #581: in 1951 this facility first produced enough electricity to light 4 200 watt light bulbs which was touted as a first.

Not Alabama or Ohio nor even Iowa (although it is closest, but not too)

Experimental Breeder Reactor in Arco Idaho

Experimental Breeder Reactor I - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm guessing this is part of the cooling system.

Yup EBR-I
Behind the Airstream is a prototype nuclear jet engine that never got off the ground for obvious reasons. That idea was nixed by Eisenhower.

If I expand the original picture in of the jet engine in 581 to its highest resolution, the top of it appears to be some foaming liquid like soaps suds. What is it really?

I did a little research and could not find beer or other foam as a waste product of breeder reactors. This is what I found:

Most nuclear powerplants are not breeder reactors. Breeder reactors could, in principle, extract almost all of the energy contained in uranium or thorium, decreasing fuel requirements by a factor of 100 compared to traditional once-through light water reactors. Conventional Light Water Reactors extract less than 1% of the energy in the uranium mined from the earth.[5] The high fuel efficiency of breeder reactors could greatly dampen concerns about fuel supply or energy used in mining. Adherents claim that with seawater uranium extraction, there would be enough fuel for breeder reactors to satisfy our energy needs for as long as the current relationship between the sun and Earth persists, about 5 billion years at the current energy consumption rate (thus making nuclear energy as sustainable in fuel availability terms as solar or wind renewable energy).[6][7]
