Following a theme. This will be an easy one as I bet most of us have driven by it at one time or another.

When I was in high school I got busted climbing the rocks at Red Rocks. The cop was nice though and let me off with a warning. Saw many great concerts there in the 70's-80's as a juvenile delinquent.

The first picture is the lens from the first lighthouse where my grandfather was a keeper. (circa 1900) It is in a museum near the lighthouse in second picture where my grandfather was a keeper a few years later.
The third picture is the lighthouse my grandfather was keeper from about 1925-1938. It is where my father grew up.

Name as many of these lighthouses as you can.

Ken

Yes, the geek in picture 1 is me.

Where Is This?

Still some recent unsolved quiz.

May I suggest that also quoting the "post #" with all answers may be more entertaining to those who are following at a later date. (makes it easier to follow after the fact)

An updated review of the rules:

"WHERE IS THIS?" will be a fun quiz about different photo shots from around North America. This will be a test to see if you absorb all that fantastic scenery while you are traveling.

Rules:

You may post a photo, (from your travels) and you should give some hint as to the location. (left, right, up, down, center or bullseye, Left of bullseye, etc.

It will be up to you to confirm a correct answer.

If the photo is not identified within 7 days you should then divulge the location for everyone to appreciate. (you may need to give more clues as each day passes)

A poster will win with the general location of the photo but actual location (highway number, etc) will get extra bragging rights.

It will be of greater interest to other readers if you can post pictures, or links, when you confirm the location to the winner.

It may help, readers to come, if each response refers to the "POST #" that contained the quiz.

The point of this thread is to promote traveling to all areas of North America and to experience the enjoyment and promote memories that will be refreshed through the medium of photography.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is an easy one from the north country. We are traveling south at the time.

Note the bear running up a 40* slope at 30 MPH. Can you do that?

You are spot on. Post 385. The bear contact is at the south end of Muncho Lake in the Strawberry Flats area.

The pictures tell the story of the beauty of this area.

Go to street view on the above site for the exact location of the bear run.

Post 384:
All three lighthouses are on the ocean rather than a bay or inland waterway.
The two lighthouses pictured have state parks named for them.

That is correct. In this old post card, you can see the house my dad grew up in.

Just from the trees, I think picture # 2 would be also in the north west but I am not familiar with it. Post 384. Was it also featured on a US stamp issue?????

Dave

I don't believe so, but maybe. It shares its name with the nearby town that is well known for its charter fishing business.

Ken

Edit: it appears that it was on a US stamp in 2007. coincidentally that is the year the picture was taken.

Post #355 is in Alaska, on a major South bound highway, and is named after a part of an animal's anatomy.

Where Is This?

Still some unsolved quiz.

Here is another easy one from the north. We are taking on fuel at this location. What ""campground"" is this next door?

I remember the DC-3 is in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, but the "campground" is actually a grocery store, but don't remember the name of it. Don't think it was a major chain like we have in the US, but we bought groceries there, and bought fuel there.

Close enough. Post 394 shows the DC-3 at Whitehorse, and the campground is ==============WALMART Parking lot. I think I counted 28 units there when we fueled up at 7 AM at the Shell.

http://goo.gl/maps/1N1VZ

Whitehorse is a very nice small city (Capital of the Yukon) with everything available there. (for a price) A tram runs on the WhitePass tracks along the Yukon River from one end of the city to the other with stops anywhere you flag it down, when we were there. Easy to see all the interesting POI and river views. Try to take a couple days to enjoy this historic area and be sure to visit the Sternwheeler SS Klondike

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Klondike

on the waterfront and the museum located adjacent to the airport for a look into the past.

We are going back for sure.

Dave

Is that Bridal Falls? I guess it looks different with the amount of water running? I did not recognize it.
