Congratulations, you got the river correct and also the correct location. It is the Buena Vista KOA and the mountain is Mt Princeton. The upper Arkansas river valley is one of my favorite areas to visit. There are many recreational opportunities. My favorite campground is the Chalk Creek Campground. We have stayed at the KOA with our old 21 ft SOB. However I am not comfortable with pulling our current trailer up into the part of the campground with the great views. I feel that Chalk Creek is superior to the flat area of the KOA.

Your prize is the warm fuzzy feeling of success.

However, I can not pinpoint where the picture would be taken. The river rafting might be at Buena Vista Whitewater Park?????

Dave, you were really close. They float the river along quite a long stretch of the river. A really fun area with a lot of things to do and see.

High and Low

Directly between the highest and lowest spot in the Upper 48. It a long hike to the top at 14,505 feet (I did this a few years ago). The lowest is -292 feet below sea level (its hot there).

You confuse me when you say the 'Upper 48'. I am looking in the NW but nothing meets the criteria.

Are you sure you are not in California?

You did good Thalweg. I was also looking on the North Shore but my GOOGLE failed me as you can see from this streetview. I am not sure if this is the new image or the old, but the whale definately was not there when I did my search. (if you move the image point up the street, the confirmation of Andys Whale location is confirmed and I would be interested in the date of construction.)

http://goo.gl/maps/trd0w

I have never been on the North Shore east of the capital Quebec City so I now have new terrotory to put on the explore list. The ferry does carry heavy vehicles, as you can see a Prevost Bus at the waiting lot on the South Shore terminal at Riviere du Loup.

I've got to confess that I cheated. The internet is an incredible thing. I've never been there. In fact, I've never been to Quebec. It's on the list though.

Where Is This?

Looks like all location quiz to date have been identified. If I have missed any, please point it out.

If you have pictures of your travel that may be of interest, post them with some clues for others to attempt to pinpoint.

Dave

A review of the rules:

"WHERE IS THIS?" will be a fun quiz about different photo shots from around North America. This will be a test to see if you absorb all that fantastic scenery while you are traveling.

Rules:

You may post a photo, (from your travels) and you should give some hint as to the location. (left, right, up, down, center or bullseye, Left of bullseye, etc.

It will be up to you to confirm a correct answer.

If the photo is not identified within 7 days you should then divulge the location for everyone to appreciate. (you may need to give more clues as each day passes)

A poster will win with the general location of the photo but actual location (highway number, etc) will get extra bragging rights.

It will be of greater interest to other readers if you can post pictures, or links, when you confirm the location to the winner.

The point of this thread is to promote traveling to all areas of North America and to experience the enjoyment and promote memories that will be refreshed in the memory bank through the medium of photography.

Where Is This?

This is an easy one for those who have traveled the route. We did not stop this trip but it is on the todo list.

An inspirational lunch at this location was the impetus for a U.S. President to create a National Park within a year of his visit.

Looks like Olympic National Park to me?

I have not been west of Port Angeles, but it is outdoor paradise.

#256 has to be the Lincoln Monument, commemorating the Lincoln Highway, at the summit of I-80 between Laramie and Cheyenne, where Wyoming State Highway 210 meets I-80. At an elevation of 8640, Wyoming claims this is "the highest point on transcontinental I-80." From Cheyenne both I-80 and the Union Pacific follow (according to John McPhee in 'Rising from the Plains') "the gangplank . . . the only place in the whole Rocky Mountain front where you can go from the Great Plains to the summit of the mountains without snaking your way up a mountain face or going through a tunnel."
