Where Is This?

The second is a view from the same location looking the opposite direction.

1 point for naming the national park
2 points for naming the mountain.
3 points each for naming the two slightly lower mountains that are clustered with the highest.
5 points for a naming the location the pictures taken from. It is a geographic location that has a name.

#321, You're looking at Rocky Mountain National Park. The tallest mountain is Longs Peak (dark spot is the "Diamond). Next lower mountain is Meeker. Picuture must be above Estes Park somewhere.

OK, that's 1 for the park 2 for the mountain and 3 for one of the other two peaks. That is 6 points total.

There are still 8 available. 3 for the third peak and 5 for the location.

If "above Estes Park" is West, the location is roughly one of the other 3 cardinal directions from Estes Park.

Aside from being fun, this thread is great for discovering new places to visit. I think the San Juan mountains are the best part of Colorado. Unfortunately they are quite a drive from the northern front range area, That is probably on of the foremost reasons for that area's preservation.

Hmmm, I'm thinking the other mountain you're looking at is the one poking its head out on the right side of the picture. I think that's Storm peak. I'm not sure about other location. I was thinking it was off of Hwy 36 just before it drops into Estes. But I suppose it could be off of Trail Ridge Road. I don't think I'm gonna get that one.

Longs Peak has two close 13,000'+ companion peaks. One, Mt Meeker, that you named, is named after a famous pioneer. the other is also named for a well known person in American History.

To reach the location where the picture was taken, one must hike a round trip distance of 7.2 miles with an elevation gain of nearly 2500 feet. I would tell you the name of the trail, but that would give away the answer.

You will be in suspense for awhile as I need to run some errands.

OK, I think I've got it figured out. I had to cheat though and look at a map. I've hiked all of these trails, but it was about 20 years ago, and my memory isn't what it used to be.

NO, but that's at least a funny guess. The brown tint to the water is because of tannin I believe from decaying plant matter. The falls are in a popular State Park.
