Not Shark Valley, not the Everglades, but a good guess.

It's a real oasis.

Right you are SteveH. Those are the coke ovens in Colo.
And quick too.

I guess there needs to be a little more challenge in the question.

If 1556 is a challenge, it a beach, and probably somewhere in the Northwest USA. You did not give us a clue....we need a clue.

Ok. It's on a beach next to a state park in central Oregon
There was a big airstream rally happening there.
Love those sand dunes!

Cheers Richard

I'll Guess "Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area"

If so that's where my dad grew up. My grandfather was the keeper at the Umpqua River Lighthouse.

If not, it's somewhere around there,

IKen

That's cool about your Grandfather Ken. Did he share stories about life as a lighthouse keeper? Was it a live in station?

You are looking a bit to far south. Would there be a big headland like that down that way?

Cheers Richard

This is like showing a picture of a Longhorn in Texas and asking where it is.
The answer is in the words (clues), not the photo.
You most likely would only know the answer if you have been there.
Yes, it's a Big area.

On an oil exploration road.
It's not a light house. But it has at the top.

My grandmother was the record keeper and story teller. One of my cousins recorded some interviews where she chronicled a lot of their adventures. My uncle was also a Keeper and between the two of them, they manned a lot of west coast light houses. They both moved around a lot. However my grandparents were at Umpqua from the time my dad was in the second grade until he graduated from Reedsport Union High school. My dad then began attending the University of Washington, and my grandfather transferred to Point No Point Lighthouse, WA to be closer to him. In 1939 when the Coast Guard took over for the US Lighthouse Service, my grandfather retired, and my Uncle became a Chief Petty Officer in the Coast Guard. To put this all in perspective, I was born in 1943.

We'll I guess there are a lot of sand dunes and rocky headland in Oregon.
Good efforts here anyway!

This particular sand dune is at Nehalem Bay SP. Near tillamook. Very neat area!
And sight of an Oregon state Airstream rally this last summer.

The period of resident Lighthouse keepers was an interesting one in coastal history, thanks Ken for sharing a bit of your families part in it.

Cheers Richard
