Well...watching one of the Seattle TV stations this evening, I saw our neighborhood listed as having one of the heavier snowfalls today. I'm not a novice at this, having lived many years in New Hampshire and Colorado, but I've never before had a trailer parked in the yard during a heavy snowstorm. Does anyone have an idea how much "wet" snow the roof of a newish Airstream can take?

8 inches at our house so far, which is a LOT for us! Then it got a crust of ice on it, the dogs hate walking on it. But for the last few hours it's been dropping more powder on top. The vinyl carport that covers the Caravel has a lot of snow on top, and I knocked quite a bit off this afternoon, but couldn't get much off the side by the shop. I'm hoping the weight won't collapse it if it piles much more on

We are south of Cameron about half an hour as the crow flies, just north of the US border, and we have about 10 inches of snow on the ground. It has not stopped for more than a half hour today and I'm already tired of winter . Like you Steph we have a crust and then fresh snow again on top of that. I have a hill in front of my house and people seem to have no problem coming down but that is only because they made it about half way up and had to turn around. It is about -2 celcius so not cold but we need our rain/liquid snow shovel back. It is supposed to rain this coming Saturday. I guess a white Christmas is definitely in the cards.
We have friends who escaped a week ago to CA to get some sun. So far they have not found it.

We hit two records!
We passed a 1 day snowfall record in Spokane by 10 inches for a total of 23". We also hit a record nightime low Friday night of 18 below. BRRR.

Yes, watched the Seahawks game today and watched the heavy 'snow-job' most of the game...I don't how you guys put up with that stuff!
Living near sea level here in Northern Calif all my long years, I'm just spoiled, I guess! A quick trip up to the mountains, dealing with those pesky tire chains and the crowds of idiot 'amateur snow drivers' really 'taints' that 'winter wonder land' image...
Had a buddy that lived all his live in So-Cal, move his family up to the Portland area. Their first Christmas, they decided to visit family back in Calif, and shut off their heater while gone....WRONG....returned a week later to find all the pipes in their house frozen solid!...Expensive lesson...we 'Prune Pickers' just aren't used to all that 'weather' many of you have to deal with every winter!

It warmed up to 15 on saturday and now is a clamy 24. I have been plowing my 1/4 mile to HWY 530 about 3 times this week. It started snowing on Tuesday night and hasn't stoppped expect for a sunny Friday. I do have my Overlander parked in the barn but it satill has about 12" of snow on its nose. It will brush off easily. From the weather reports, we are in for more of this weather at least until Christmas. Oh well, Learn to be friends with the snow LOL. I will be having a WHITE Christmas

I should explain for those outside the region. Yakima and surrounding area has a wine industry that has exploded the last decade and by many accounts is expected in the next 10 years to surpass any wine producing area in north america, which is great for the economy here.
While it definately has it's downsides having spent the last 30 years or so as a very poor region with large migrant populations of farm workers etc, it has over 300 days of sunshine a year, is close to Portland, Seattle, Spokane etc, so not a bad place to settle down. You can literally drive 15 minutes west and be in fully tree'd mountains and 15 minutes east and be in the middle of the desert.
Anyway, since the early 70's a local developer has had this sign on the side of the highway coming into town. Despite many attempts at city slogans etc over the years, it has always stuck, at times at the dismay of the city itself.

snow is a four letter word..
Having lived in Alaska for just over 22 years, I know what cold is.
I've put chains on at 60* F. BELOW ZERO and at 50* F. ABOVE ZERO.
The latter because of mud. I used to race snowmobiles up north and have been over 100 MPH at 60* below back in 1972 during the "Midnight Sun 600" race.
BUT now, at 70 years young, enough is enough.
Take this stuff back up there where it belongs,
NORTH OF THE BORDER>.... The Polar Bears need the cold to keep the ice from melting.
By the way, do you know how to catch a Polar Bear?
Well, it is like this....
Go out on the ice, cut a hole about 36" in diameter. Oh Oh , you for got the canned peas. Go back and get a # 303 tin of canned peas. go back onto the ice and cut the hole out again.
Now sprinkle the peas around the hole. Gee wiss, OPEN the Can First.
Now back off away from the hole about 200 yards.
When the Polar Bear gets right up near the hole to take a pea, kick him in the

Just a BIT? Well at least it is a good conversation starter for people coming through town. BTW only about an inch or so new today, so the rest of the storm must have just missed us. Anyone get a lot last night?

Down here in Oregon, at the foot of Mt Hood, we have over two feet of snow on the ground. The snow has been pushed up to four foot high along the roadside at the mailbox, and more is on the way. The biggest challenges have been keeping the snow thrower running and resisting the urges to drag the Airstream to a warmer place. The Airstream has been winterized and is plugged into power from the shop. The tow vehicle is parked during the snow, even though it is four-wheel drive, as I just can’t bring myself to spend $600.00 for studded snow tires for just one season. We have studded tires all around on two other vehicles, and we don’t need the van on a daily basis.
Our plans are to rent out the house, and head south in March or April. We are planning to full time it for a couple of years or so, and see if it works out. The wife’s parents were full timers for over 20 years, and followed rallies and caravans all over North America and the world, and we plan to use them as a model.
