are sticks reusable after loading into your pc?
Not a problem..I have several sizes, 32 and 64 mg. Capable of holding 100's (close to 900 pictures on one) of pictures until I download to either the puter or my printer. Afterwards, you just reuse them for more picture taking sessions.
You just use the normal file management process to transfer the pictures off the memory stick.

Seems that for me, using a digital camera allows me to just shoot more pictures. I don't worry about every precious frame of film as I did with my traditional cameras. It has taught me to take chances. Perhaps only one or two shots will be 'good' pictures out of twenty, but my results are better over all.

gotta jump in here

I just love my sony Cyber shot 3.3 with thw zeiss lens. We have used it for several years with great results.

We did have to have it repaired once but it wasn't outrageously expensive.

Olympus C-2040 2.1MP

It's a great little camera that has few faults. Easy to use, excellent program mode results, excellent f/1.8 lens, fairly robust case fairly accurate auto-focus/auto-exposure. Bought it a year and a half ago for $229, a steal, from eBay. Use 32MB cards and rechargeable lithium batteries. Bounced it off a picnic table onto rocks last year with no damage.

I'm looking for an Olympus E-10 4.0MP. It has a more heavy-duty aluminum body; a wider-range zoom, and larger screen. The problem, as always, is that I'm not willing to spend $600. When I find one for $350, I'll scoop it! (yeah, RIGHT!!!)

No, Tom... it has no requirement for Cyclos and various grades of polish... or Southern Shine... or moonshine or whatever... the aluminum is tastefully concealed behind some kind of ugly paint finish... sorta like a <gasp> Holiday Rambler!!!!

I use a Kodak dc4800, since replaced by a newer model. It has a nice zoom , 3.3 mg pixel. More importantly to me is the photo tweaking program you use.
Although I like Photoshop, which is pretty awesome, I use Microsoft Photodraw quite a bit to improve the quality of my digital photos. It came as part of the Office 2000 app.
My suggestion is under 3 mg pixel would work well for most applications, unless you are enlarging over 5x7 inches. My brother has a 6.0+ mgpixel Nikon which makes incredible photos.
Bear in mind a 35mm film camera is something like 23,000 mg pixel on the low end. So my old Pentax is still quite the thing.

I use a Nikon Coolpix 885. I can recommend it for it's great color detail and small size. I also find the 4 quality settigs very helpful. It makes small pics for internet and e-mail from large files, right on the Compact Flash card, which is cool. No re-sizing pics after downloading.
It saves pics in jpeg for the high, medium and low settings, but for the ultra fine, it saves in gif file format.
It came with a very robust rechargable battery, charger and a 120V power suply as well. It was not a cheap camera, but i am now glad I bought it.

Digital cameras

I use a Nikon Coolpix 950. In general, picture quality is very good. Memory upgrades have dropped in price and I currently use a 128mb card which gives me about 230 shots at standard resolution. The main shortcoming is difficulty in getting the correct exposure for high contrast situations.

I mostly use a camcorder

For posting online I generally use my Canon Elura 2mc digital camcorder. If I record in progressive scan each frame is a distinct picture I can capture out of Apple Mac iMovie. But generally I use the still picture mode that captures onto a multimedia card. It is 640 x 480 size. I then import into iPhoto. If I post online here I export a JPEG from iPhoto reduced to 400 x 300 in pixel size. Pretty simple and consistent. They're good enough for online but not for printing.

I have other digital cameras, Photoshop 7.0, a scanner and film cameras for print media. My next digital camera that I am lusting for will probably be the Olympus C750, 4 mp, 10x optical zoom, 40x digital zoom. It is fairly compact yet will let me take some nature photography.

As for me...

a Sony Digital Mavica with 20x Precision Zoom 2.1 Mega Pixels and MPEG movie that stores images on a floppy. I've had this camera for awhile and found it to be extremely versatile.

Sony Mavica with floppy drive hasent failed in 5+ years and floppys are cheap and you can take pictures and give them away to friends

a simple answer

I bought and sold regularly on ebay for a few years, so I would buy latest digital cameras and in a few months sell and buy another newer, better one. My observations...

need an a/c adapter for downloading pics

need rechargeable batteries as most cameras eat batteries

1mp is perfectly adequate just to post pics online and e-mails

Simple cameras have simple editing programs and do less but enough for most people

Stay with Kodak, Sony, Fuji, Canon, Olympus, or Nikon if you can

Buy cheaper one and determine your interest.....jem

I just bought and am learning the Olympus C-50 5 megapixel zoom Aluminum body. It's small, sturdy, easy to use, and it was cheap. Got it as a refurbished model from the internet...at half the new price.
