Spirit of the Peoples

Here's some pics of our latest décor..."Spirit of the Peoples"...using a Pendleton blanket (which is reversible) of the same name as the bedspread and a second to make pillow shams, throw pillows, valances and the dinette seat backs (in combination with bomber jacket)...haven't even added this one to our website yet...these were taken over Thanksgiving at Picacho Peak State Park... (We baked the pumpkin pie in the Bambi's oven, too!)

Later pictures of the work in progress on 78 Tradewind

We started refurbishment but in the end decided that the new fridge, cook top, etc wouldn't look good next to tired well-worn fittings. We needed to get rid of the fake, dark, walnut veneers and the discoloured light fittings but we wanted to keep a 60's/70s feel. When you start from scratch there's more fun in the design, sourcing materials and playing with shapes and colours. We used a 3D computer programme to model the interior. When we took out the overhead lockers, we were amazed at how huge the space looked and loved seeing the shape of the Airstream inside with its subtle parabolic curves. We didn't like what vertical lines did to them and experimented with where we could put curved partitions. We found that a 3.2 metre radius worked with the outside shape. The colours were inspired by Biba, a driving force in 70s taste.

Very nice!!!

I was just looking at your previous photos last night and wishing there were more. I was planning to reply to and earlier one to ask for updates.

Great work. Very innovative design.

This thread is great. I wanted to add some of our little baby. We found her May 09 and spent a year rebuilding/restoring/updating everything. We chose a warm fall look to bring out the qualities of the mahagony cabinetry. We were lucky that the PO had not done anything to the cabinets. Some sanding and several coats of Red Mahagony Watco Oil did the rest.....Tim
