Balloon pilots like to think they "land" their balloons, although it may seem more like a "crash" when one lands on your Airstream.

If this was in a Vintage Airstream area then it fits right in. That is one of the very early Raven hot air balloons. The tanks were used as seats. Long before wicker became the preferred type of basket material because it had some flex on landing. 70's era of Raven balloons.

Tin Crumpet might not understand the term "bogart" so I will answer for her. That is Lake Crescent in the Olympic National Park on the north of the Olympic Peninsula. I know this because I took them to the lake.

Terrible accident here years ago at the Hazelmere RV Park (which is the home of many full-timers.) Don't believe it took out any Airstreams, but there was loss of life, serious injury, and a few incinerated RVs.

Your right Dan..I didn't
I Read in a flash..so perhaps needed further clarification
of the true meaning of Bogart.. Ive heard of Humphrey but
had no idea of the connection.. The meaning was described as
"keeping a joint in the mouth" ..and I even wondered "joint" being
you know...errr..druggy type things..coz thats what we call
naughty smokes over here..and deduced the drug effect could conjure up hallucinations of surreal views.... then.. I assumed the nice lady suggested we were insensitively smoking at the location and should not be ..we weren't but it doesn't matter anyway as it didn't mean that after all..The penny finally dropped..Humphrey did not share his fags or cigars whichever he drew on...so.. from that I conclude she means we were keeping the spot to ourselves ...ha ...funny...I wasted so much time up the wrong alley ....
For the likes of us ..Dan guided us to another world unlike earth..certainly unlike England....i'm wanting to peep again in the summer times when I imagine happy people paddling about..lounging on deck chairs and having a jolly good time

I have some degree of expertise in this area. You have to be old enough for the happy hippy days of the 60s and Humphrey Bogart reruns to understand, You will recall Boggie often had a cigarette dangling from his lips. "Bogarting the Joint" was not passing it around to your friends in a group setting. Country Joe and the Fish did a song of the same title with the line "Don't Bogart that joint my friend, pass it over to me".

It was exhilarating. Bears everywhere, one came within 20' of us. In this setting they are used to seeing small groups of people (6 of us) and don't feel threatened.

Well, the day has come. Talk about self-inflicted wounds, setting myself up to judge such awesome pictures, and yeah, pick one! I could have picked 30. But alas, it has to be. First, thanks everyone for contributing such great posts this month; I mean really, there were some literally spectacular posts. My job was made slightly easier with one of our members disqualifying themselves because potentially they knew they could not run a contest next month due to time constraints.
The theme was to share with others great places they had been because their Airstream had allowed them to go there - unique, interesting, beautiful places, and I asked for a little bit of a story. So on my (ultimately) short list was SteveSueMac (post 3) with his picture and story from the Calvin Coolidge home - this post really caught my imagination and the whole concept of the contest. Another was Enived2 (post 6) with the picture of the moose - simply a stunning picture. And the last was MaxTow (post 126) with the collage of pictures (including a map of the trip) heading out west.
Without further ado, the winner for October is ... drum roll... MaxTow for post 126!! Just to be clear, I could not choose which of the pictures, so have chosen the entire post. Congratulations MaxTow! Looking forward to the November topic.

I change my desktop background every couple of days - and I think I snagged enough pictures from this months contest (and from a whack of folks) to keep me going for a very long time.
Sincere congratulations to MaxTow on a very well-deserved win in a highly competitive month!
And just as sincere congratulations to Nilesrob for a job very well done!
Thanks (to all),
Jay

Wow Brad, this was a great theme, I believe ALL of us are winners this month because if I (we) didn't have Airstreams we probably wouldn't have been on this forum, read this thread, and not experience (vicariously) all of these great places. What a fantastic group of photos you were able to get everyone to post. It is going to be tough to beat this month's group of entries!

Thanks all - the contest was really at the heart of why we have Airstreams to begin with - so no surprise that there were many inspired entries.
A bit of a sad day today as we put the Airstream into winter storage for 6 months. We've already had traces of snow over the past week or so.
Lots of time to plan next year's adventures. Obviously I need to plan next months contest. Thinking cap firmly on!
