In a previous life, I full timed all across Europe in a 18' trailer, towed behind my BMW 328 Touring...
Fond memories of my stays in Holland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, and best of all, Tuscany, Italy.
Favorite Pics...
I lived on a grove of Olive trees for about a year just outside Pisa....
But when my job finished, I had to drive thru the Mt Blanc Tunnel, where the weather in Courmayer, Italy was good....
But upon emerging from the tunnel, the drive down was a little scary!
That rig was sold when I moved to California in 1998.
I loved to camp, and used my 1987 Suburban to get to the Racetrack in Death Valley...
I needed a 4x4, so I built this...
Into this....
A pair of big dogs and a new lady, dictated more space and comforts like A/C, bathroom and a generator, but I still wanted 4x4.. or 6x6 so this was my choice, and an ongoing project...
Which brings me to the comfort zone and my Airstream...
My trips just keep getting better!

I forgot the prize for the winner.
Hi, for the winner of this month's photo contest, is: Ten very rare [sew-on] patches for your hat, jacket, or whatever. Five in dark blue and five with a light gray/silver image. [4 1/2"s wide and 2 1/2"s high] Now lets see more photos.

Movin on up...
Our SOB trailer finally got to the point where the siding began coming off traveling down I-5. I pulled over and began trying to screw the metal back on - there was so much dry rot that it was hard to do. I sold it and bought my first A/S. I've now owned 3, the second photo shows my 72 Globetrotter which I sold, and my current Safari.
Great thread!
Dave

We've had tents, pop-ups, Tow-Lites and now Airstreams. It was so nice to have our first full profile trailer and an Airstream!!!!
I suppose our smallest towable would be this trailer.

Downsize but upscale
In April '08 we decided to downsize from a 1983 Sovereign 31' (which Airstream never officially made) to a 2008 Safari Sport 22'
The four of us including my wife, me, George the dog and Lollypop the cat are perfectly comfortable on our vacations and I don't worry about all those little maintenance issues like I did before.
Towing weight dropped from about 8,000 lb. to about 3,800 lb.
Less room but a good decision.

There's still a wee bit of May left. Lynn and I just returned from helping our daughter and family move...nothing good about moving a family except the move was just a mile.
Man I gotta lot of pics. Some that dad took in the begining. I can divide my camping years by decades except my first decade...the late 30's....don't rememeber those days so I will begin in 1943.
Number one picture is..
1; My brother at the lake which is Glorita Beach near Lexington, Mich, on Lake Huron
2; Me, same place but notice the trailers camped in the background.
3; 1952. Rte 66 and our 'rig'.
4; 1952. I was the 'hitcher-upper'.
5; Early 60's I pup tented a lot.
6; 1969, Lynn and I trailer camped in Death Valley.
7; 1970's we famly tent camped.
8; We had a great time touring the Southwest with this set up.
9; 1990's and a bigger pop up with A Jeep for some off the beaten track camping.
10; 21 Century...kids gone so Lynn and I joined a 'cult' ans became 'Streamers. Love the rallies but we still have the kids...and their kids join us when they can. (I guess it's in their blood too...overheard their 'discussion' to which gets the Airstream...eventually)
Neil.

Wow Neil, your pictures really told a story.
Absolutely love the picture of you in the lake, and yes you can just make out the shiney silver trailers in the back grounds.
Great job!

Hi, this month had some interesting photos of campers, that you have evolved from, and to what you have now. As you know, this contest wasn't about your photography skills, beauty, scenery, or that lucky "once in a lifetime shot."
"What a difference there is between my first [or previous] camper and the one I own now."
My choice for this months photo contest is: TinLoaf. And what a difference there is between his previous camper and the Airstream he owns now. Congratulations TinLoaf. Now let's see what June has for us.

Thanks. I'm honored to have been chosen as the winner among such excellent competition. Those were some great stories this month. Keep your eyes open for June's theme. I'll post a link once I've started the thread.

Congratulations TinLoaf. How devastated you must have felt when you first came upon your first trailer. Can't wait to see what theme you come up with for June!
Regards, Terry.
