Your Most Unique Boondocking Experience

We're looking for those spots that are dear to your heart, extremely remote, maybe not even on this continent... So we want to see those white & black sand beaches, lava fields, camping over 10,000 ft, rain forest of the Pacific NW, camping in death valley, at the base of a glacier, you get the idea.

Must have a of part of your Airstream in the photo & no campgrounds! Please also indicate the location and how challenging it was to get your AS there for bonus points.

THINK REMOTE!

Here's our pic as an example: Boondocking in the Ruby Mountains in Rural Northern Nevada near Elko. Had to tow the AS down a jeep trail 4 miles after driving 40 miles off the highway!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Please send us your mailing address, via PM, and we will send you some prizes.

Unusual Boondocking

Burning Man Sunrise
We're not boondocking yet in this photo, but we're waiting in line before a week of the most surreal boondocking I can imagine: 24 hour music, art that drives or walks past your campsite, all water packed in, everything, even evaporated gray water residue packed back out again, and a whole group of new Airstreaming friends to share it with.

Tin Pickle on the Rocks
This second photo is one of the more unusual parking situations we're likely to experience while boondocking. Yes, the trailer is dead level. But what's making that possible is the 2x6 under the tires: it is held on top of a rock by the weight of the trailer. There is air under the 2x6 under each tire on either side of the rock.

Pickle in a Valley
This last image shows the hillside upon which our Tin Pickle was so precariously balanced - miles of dirt road away from the nearest public paved road, overlooking the Eel River Valley, hanging out with new and old friends on a spring weekend.

Ducluc? I've never heard of that one before! Are you sure it's not near someplace like Dulce, NM?

Not sure whether this qualifies as "boondocking" - fall camping in a closed campground - but it was one of those perfect camping nights - in a great spot on a great trip ..... the Qu' Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan.

I actually believe we crossed that exact bridge back in '85 when my (then) new bride and I were on a 3 week primitive excursion camping adventure in a ford ranger and a two man tent, LOL, when we got married, of course it may not have been "that" bridge.... however it was a great "blast from the past moment". We almost turned around around and went back to, what seemed like hundreds of miles to find a decent road, but our sense of adventure beckoned to continue forward. Amazingly we're still together today!

eubank...you may be correct, Dulce.
It is way up at top of NM on a Apache reservation.
Road turns south in town, and I kept going straight.
Looked like a good road at first, then turned into dirt.
I really want to cross this bridge to see the other side, but backed out.

Yep, that's Dulce.

Short story: Several years ago the grocery store in "nearby" Chama collapsed under heavy snow. Only a 28 mile drive to buy food by driving to Dulce! It took over a year to get the situation fixed.

The Trona Pinnacles.

Anyone that's been there will probably tell you that we were crazy to take the trailer down the access road. 6 miles of a rough dirt road in the middle of a salty lake bed. But man, it was worth it. They were amazing.

Red Rock Canyon

We camped here. It is a state campground, but without any amenities. Wonderful place, really amazing landscape. At night there was a giant owl in the rocks just behind the trailer. The sound echoed throughout the campground, whoooo, whoooo!

Thumbs up

One week to go, wish you all luck. What would be cool is that the next contest would have a greater percentage of newer Airstreams as potential candidates and winners. Vintage has taken the lions share of winnng votes each and every time. Let's expand the fun to all Airstreaming participants.
