Looking for some info on cool airstream photo

Hi Airstreamers, I was hoping someone might be able to give me a bit of info on a airstream photo im trying to reference for university. Im sure it is one you have all seen many times before, a French bicycle racer Latourneau towing an airstream in 1947. It's featured on the cover of "Look! It's an Airstream Postcard Box" which im sure many of you have been tempted to purchase. Just wondering if anyone can dig out the details of the photographer, copyright details etc, and/or a link to a high res version online.

Thanks so much in advance, really interesting site. Also not sure if anyone has posted this conversion of a 1978 Sovereign 31’ Airstream Land Yacht. Appologies if it has been posted before.

Airstream Life Fall 2007

Airstream Life Fall 2007 issue has a great article on everything you would want to know about the photo and the man on the bicycle.

Historic Re-Enactment

Greetings C. Student!

I kept your thread in mind as I was sorting through my photos as I was sure that I had a series of photos take at the WBCCI International Rally in Dayton, Ohio on June 30, 1999. These digital photos were taken with a Sony FD90 camera so aren't up to today's standards for resolution.

The trailer involved was a 1948 Liner (I believe that it was 21 or 22 feet). The LP tanks were not on the tongue, the water tank was empty, and some of the interior was out for restoration. The trailer and bicycle were owned by Clyde Wagoner who had led the Wagon Wheels Caravan into the Rally. The bicycle was a montain bicycle with a trailer brake controller and hitch added.

The participants quickly learned that getting started was nearly the trickiest part of the experience -- any wobble in the bicycle translated to "sway" in the trailer. Keeping the rig in a straight line required intense concentration. Stopping the trailer required a steady hand on the brake controller. As can be seen in a couple of the photos some assistance helped in getting the rig underway.

Thanks for posting these photos. I heard that this happened, but have never seen the photos. The guy in the red shirt doing the assisting is Paul Drag and the rider looks like Tom Howarth. Also, it looks like Bud Cooper standing in the background of one of the photos, and Tom Reed in another. Am I close?

You've got it! Present for the event among others were: Clyde Wagner, Tom Howarth, Tom Reed, Bill Scott, Bud Cooper, Rick Davis, Forest Bone, Herb Spivey, Bob Herman, and Paul Drag. I am not sure, but I think Ed Emerick and Scott Scheuermann may have been there as well -- but I am not certain and they weren't among the pilots. I almost missed Preston Pearson -- he was one of the pilots.
