Based on the photo, it could count as boondocking.

Here's my next stop on last week's odessey--a quick stop to look at Sego canyon, then overnight on Vail Pass.

You can boondock in at least two locations in the canyon--here adjacent to the anthropomorphic petroglyphs and another just a few yards further along the road. The road up to this point is paved--old pavement but very serviceable. However, there is a small aroyo about 1/4 from the petroglyphs that might give longer Airstreams a problem. The Caravel went down into it fine, but I think trailers longer than 22' might have to cross it on the diagonal or might not be able to cross at all.

The saturation is pushed a little in this one, but it gives the right feel to the image. That spot up in the clouds is the moon, which gives you a good idea of the wide angle-ness of the lens I was using.

The camping spot is just on the other side of the lake. You can just see the low dam in the far distance.

tut, tut. you know the host can't win...

besides, $5 is only 2-1/2 bottles of Two-Buck Chuck, hardly enough of a bribe.

Late entry!

This place is my very favorite. A patch of soft sand in Mexico, near San Felipe. First pic is from 2004, second one from 2006 - but it's the same spot. Wake up to soft light and cool sand, go to sleep relaxed from a day of beachcombing or kayaking. Or better yet - doing absolutely, profoundly nothing.

Took this while enjoying the moon tonight. I will disqualify myself because I have full hookups.

Thanks everyone for participating. There wasn't a bad post in the whole thread. Special thanks to those who provided information on their boondock locations.

So, honorable mentions to:

AZFLYCASTER for his nearly B&W looking day in the snow. Way to go, Richard.

OVERLANDER63 for great use of an Airstream!

INSIDEOUT for her very nice photo from the Denver unit maintenance rally. Yea for the home unit!

GOIN CAMPING for the courage to spend time at Cadiz Lake and to convince others to do the same.

RICKANDSANDI for being completely nuts. Get the pixel size right next time you transplant yourself to the moon and the sky's the limit!

UWE for reminding me that I'm going to join him one of these years down in San Felipe. For the first time I'm thinking he's got two Airstreams, or more.

As you can see, my personal biases played a big part in my enjoyment of everyone's input. And now, drum roll, please.

The winner of the June 07 photo contest is

SPIFFY GEM for mentioning Google Earth, using Lat-Lon, providing the "big sky" feeling, and for being so durn far from pavement. As much as I want to be in all the locations mentioned, this one is now high on my list. Thanks very much.

You can now open the next contest by starting the thread "July-07-Photo-Contest" and you can make your own rules. Have fun. Good luck.
