You can do those and many more with Photoshop Elements. A total of 47 different styles are loaded into the unextended version of my older copy (Elements 6), and each of those 47 includes a pane with adjustment sliders to customize the photo. (Open the photo, click Filter, and away you go!)

This is a very cool app. Here is the original and painted version I did on my iPad.

I love both photos and the continental divid sign gives the "painting" a nice composition.

If you can, maybe inverse-select the sign itself, then give the remaining picture the painterly effect, then layer the sign back in. That might make the sign still readable. It'll look kind of like the attached image.

Lynn:

Nice job on the update with sign much easier to read. I do like both versions. Btw if you ever go to top of Independence Pass (rom Aspen side of the pass) do it early in the morning as it's only wide enough in certain spots for one vehicle and backing up is not an option..

Another Photo

Here's another approach to creating an "artistic" photo. My digital camera, a Panasonic GF1, has the ability to record images in various color palates. This one is called "nostalgic." The shot was taken at close range with a 7mm wide angle lens, so our 27' Flying Cloud morphed--distorted--into something that looks over 57'. Cool.
