It occurs to me that it might be interesting for some of us here who are using Instagram to connect on there to share images from AS life. Thoughts?

It also occurs to me that perhaps no one thinks that's such an intriguing idea... lol

Instagram is a photosharing platform recently purchased by Facebook for about 1 billion dollars in cash and shares.

OMG! If the other photo sharing platforms weren't bad enough already.

Well, that's what I get for not explaining.

vswingfield.... a couple of things that I like about this because I mostly agree in terms of having not much interest in other photosharing platforms....

the basic filters that are available are nicely done and remind me of the aesthetic of the AS.... and the end result photo is roughly the same format of 2.25 x 2.25 photography that I started out with as a photojournalist.... makes you think about how you are composing photos.

and the social media basis of the platform is a good way to share single photos... not upload endless travel snapshots to one of the many sharing warehouse applications.

I still have a 2.26 x 2.25 camera, a Yachica Mat 124G. But I learned to crop and further enhance the composition in the darkroom.

The thing that jumped out at me was the restriction to a square format. If I want to make my photos square, I will. I will make them any set of of proportions I want. I admit, it was this restriction that set me off.

I hear you. I guess I just find it fun to see what i can do in the square format from a composition standpoint on my smartphone. I'm the kind of person who shoots architectural details just for my own amusement.

Still have my Yashica D.... shot lots of basketball through the sportsfinder and huge Honeywell strobe that must have blinded many a high school player

Same here, sort of. Used a 124 on the annual staff in high school. The strobe had a battery pack that hung from your shoulder and took something like six D batteries.

I found the 124G that I have now at the state's surplus property sale.

Completely agree and with the limited experience I've had with Facebook, you can only adjust those square crops in size. Too limiting is an understatement.

my solution to the square crop is to use another app to pre-filer my Instagram photo... lately I've been using pudding.to Its a free app & has some groovy filters... you'll have white borders on 2 sides filling in what would be the crop zone but the result fits nicely in Instagram... I posted this photo of Raquel that way
