Status Report

Here we are only 9 days into the February 2013 Photo Contest, and we already have 31 amazing entries that have been viewed 3,306 times!

I will be embarking the home office to travel to Mesa, AZ where our Airstream awaits among the citrus trees and not far from the heated pool where I will reestablish contest headquarters.

Keep 'em coming Airstream Afflictionados!

"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."

When I am browsing any Airstream dealership, it always reminds me of the colourless Kansas in The Wizard of Oz. Perfectly nice, but the uniformity of the exterior and factory interiors are screaming for individuality.

After purchasing the FaN, I could hardly wait to get it home so I could transform that conformity into something more personable - with a pop of glorious Technicolour. I wanted to open that grey door..........

.....and not step into a predictable factory "Kansas" interior like this.....

What I wanted to experience was more like this!......

After looking at the wonderful "after" photos in the thread, you have all created an Airstream land of enchantment. Some of the vintage restorations are magical. The Wizard of Oz analogy is apropos because these restorations took an incredible amount of heart, brain, and courage!

The FaN is relatively new, so my "after" is not as ambitious, but I like it. I do not have to click my ruby slippers and wish for "home." It always feels like "home" no matter where I go......

Thank-you Alumaholic for such a great theme. It will remembered as one of the best!

Ok, ours was not as great as the restorations I've seen so far but we hated the lime green and fell in love with the Victorinox limited edition Bambi (first Airstream I walked in) but $60,000 was more than a bit out of our price range so we decided to change our color scheme. The 06 CCDs used color in the lockers and it was the lime green so I was going to paint it but decided to just use a heavy duty white shelf paper instead. We had AZBambi decors make slip covers for the corner cushions and bought everything else on clearance from Macy's and the rugs and kitchen faucet are from Ikea. We also replaced the tv and mounted it so we can turn it toward the bedroom for movie night! Then we cut a hole behind the magazine rack (above the fridge) and spliced into the speaker wires for surround sound (ours didn't have the av upgrade but they were all wired for it) and made a nice cover to cover up the hole. We also added towel racks and a spice rack. They may all look the same on the outside but it's fun to personalize the inside. So for under $30,000 we got what we think is close to the $60,000 Victorinox edition. I'm loving this months contest! Lots of talented people out there!
