Does anyone know what this is?

I was visiting a junk type gift shop today and they had just brought in some stuff, and they asked me if I knew what this metal piece was/is...It has the initials or monogram D e L. One said it was from a motor cycle and or might have been from an old compressor. What do you think? Sorrry about not knowing where to post this...was looking for 'off topic and could not find it.

Well, like a shell you know...it's heavy too.
There are two places (screw/attachment area) at one end and thats about it. I thought it either covered a chain like as in a motor cycle or the belt of a compressor ... it's pretty much just a cover of sorts. It also may be cast iron because of the weight. It may have been a horizontal cover to something inside an engine of some sort of heavy duty old machinery. I could take another picture when I swing by there tomorrow.

OK I am back...went to the shop- flipped the mystery object over, and the back side looks like this. also took a closer 'fuzzy' picture of the monogram.

I,m almost certain it is a cover for a piece of De Laval equipment. They are still in the dairy equipment business. That "L" is the same as their vintage logo.

You don't have to be almost certain anymore... there's a De Laval sign for sale here with that same logo:
Vintage De Laval tin sign

Actually that is a Flux Capacitor cover off a DeLorean. It is probably so rusty because it spent so much time in the past.
