Diplomatic Dilemma with this months contest ...

There's a bit of a diplomatic dilemma with this months contest .....

Santa dropped by (literally) for a little chat ....

Apparently he's an avid reader (and contributor) to Airforums (he wouldn't reveal his forum name) ....
.... he has wanted to take part in the monthly photo contests for some time ....
.... it seems he has chosen this month's theme for his contribution ....

As you can imagine – this is a bit of a sensitive situation ...
.... heck – the guy figures he is a shoe-in .....
..... claims he has looked beyond every hill there is to look beyond – and all the next hills after that ..... everywhere ..... on the entire planet ....

I tried to delicately point out that the photo had to have at least a piece of an Airstream showing .....
.... he says he has a strong argument for his sleigh .....
.... points out that his sleigh (the Polar "Clipper") has aerodynamic design features that he himself pioneered at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution – features that have allowed it to "stream through the air" ever since – making life much easier on his reindeer.

Decades later .... when sharing some cookies and milk on Christmas Eve in 1903 he showed the secrets of his flying sleigh to an inquisitive young child (guess who). Eventually this young child would go on to design trailers later in life ....
.... and the 1st "Airstream Clipper" would be born .....

The dilemma .....

Santa unquestionably feels his sleigh qualifies as an Airstream – in fact the way he looks at it the first Airstream Clipper was really just an enclosed on-the-ground knock-off of the original Polar Clipper.....

So he has submitted a photo.

I did question his logic .....

But he's fairly persuasive ......
.... he took out his "naughty" list .....
..... made some notes .....

Then I made a strong and decisive ruling ....

..... here's the photo .....

Sorry about that - I had attached it as a .bmp file - should be fixed now - but if it isn't then my technical knowledge is exhausted and I guess Santa loses out .....

Here are a couple of nice hills.

1) approaching Creator Lake, OR

2) Mt.Shasta, CA

and if you cross over enough hills you come to the
Big Water.
3) Pacific Ocean near MacKerricher SP, CA

I think it's best to let photographers post their own photos to twitter (or elsewhere on line) if they want to...I know a couple of years ago there was discussion about making a calendar from shots posted & that was nixed. I feel reposting on twitter falls into the same category ~

Members are gracious to share their photos with the AirForums community...I know I have had several of my photos "borrowed" without permission and I don't appreciate it - I think others feel the same. Best to leave well enough alone IMO.

That's great Shari - you've said it well .... so the answer to aluminomad's question is .... you really need to check with the photographer .....

Thanks,

Jay

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and can look forward to a Happy New Year.

In the meantime ....

.... just a gentle reminder .....

..... 2010 is winding down .....

..... the clock is ticking .....

..... and its also ticking on the last photo contest of the year ....

..... there are some pretty spectacular pictures so far ....

..... but don't let that discourage you! .....

..... take a little time to browse through those old (or new) pictures .....

..... maybe with a martini or two .....

..... or 3 or 11 beer or .....

..... or how about just a great cup of coffee ....

..... and share with us your own inner sense of adventure as you chased what was: "over the next hill – and the hill after that!"

Thanks!
